Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants vs Easy Custom CSSfor Shopify (2026)
Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants and Easy Custom CSS are both Shopify apps under the "Design elements" category, but they address fundamentally different needs. Camouflage focuses on improving the customer experience by managing product variant visibility based on inventory and other conditions. It targets merchants who want to prevent customer frustration by clearly indicating product availability. Easy Custom CSS, on the other hand, provides a way for merchants to modify their store's visual appearance through custom CSS code. It's aimed at merchants with at least some CSS coding knowledge who want more granular control over their store's design beyond what their theme offers. The crucial difference lies in their functionality: Camouflage automates variant visibility based on rules, while Easy Custom CSS requires manual coding to achieve design changes.

Our Verdict
For most Shopify merchants, especially those without CSS expertise, Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants is the stronger choice. Its high rating and numerous positive reviews suggest it effectively solves a common problem – managing sold-out variants to improve the customer experience. Easy Custom CSS, with its low rating and few reviews, is only suitable for merchants who are comfortable writing CSS code and need very specific design tweaks beyond their theme's capabilities. If your goal is to automate the handling of sold-out variants and improve conversion rates, Camouflage is the clear winner. However, if your primary goal is fine-grained design control and you possess the necessary technical skills, Easy Custom CSS may be considered, although alternatives should be investigated, given its rating.
