Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants vs FlexCon Product Rental, Hirefor Shopify (2026)
Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants and FlexCon Product Rental, Hire are Shopify apps targeting distinctly different merchant needs. Camouflage focuses on enhancing the customer experience for standard e-commerce stores by allowing merchants to manage the visibility of product variants based on inventory, location, or other criteria. Its strength lies in improving conversion rates by preventing customer frustration related to out-of-stock items. FlexCon, on the other hand, caters to businesses operating on a rental model, providing features like smart rental calendars, real-time inventory tracking for rentals, security deposit management, and rental order tracking. The critical difference lies in their core functionality. Camouflage helps merchants who sell products outright manage their product presentation to reduce bounce rates and improve sales. FlexCon provides a comprehensive suite of tools for merchants who rent out products or services, managing availability, bookings, payments, and the entire rental lifecycle. Both apps are categorized under "Custom products" in Shopify, likely because they offer customization options related to product display or booking options.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling standard products with variations, where managing out-of-stock items is crucial, Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants is the clear choice. Its high rating and numerous positive reviews suggest it effectively addresses this specific pain point. However, a lack of reviews should not automatically discount the value of the other App, FlexCon Product Rental, Hire.
FlexCon Product Rental, Hire is specifically designed for rental businesses. If a merchant is operating a rental service (e.g., renting out sports equipment, tools, or event supplies), FlexCon provides essential tools for managing bookings, inventory, and payments tailored to the rental model. The app's lack of reviews should prompt careful consideration of the vendor's support and documentation before committing, but if the feature set aligns with the rental business needs, it could prove invaluable.
Common Questions
Can Camouflage be used for rental products?
Camouflage is designed to manage product variant visibility based on inventory. While technically you could use it to hide unavailable rental options, it lacks core rental management features like booking calendars, deposit handling, and rental-specific inventory tracking. FlexCon would be a better fit for rental businesses.
Does FlexCon handle shipping of rental items?
The description focuses on booking, availability, deposits, and order management. It does not explicitly mention shipping management for rentals, so this is a key consideration when evaluating the app.
Is Camouflage suitable for a store with only a few products?
Camouflage's value increases with the number of product variants a store has. If a store has very few products or variants, the benefits of hiding sold-out options might be minimal.
How easy is it to set up FlexCon?
Given the lack of reviews, the ease of setup is unknown. Merchants should investigate the vendor's documentation and support resources before committing to FlexCon.
Can Camouflage hide product variants based on customer location?
Yes, Camouflage's key features include hiding variants based on countries.
