Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants vs SE: Option Price Calculatorfor Shopify (2026)
Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants and SE: Option Price Calculator, while both touching on product variants, cater to fundamentally different needs within the Shopify ecosystem. Camouflage addresses the user experience issue of displaying sold-out product variants, providing merchants with tools to hide, disable, or style these variants based on inventory levels, country, customer tags, or other custom conditions. This enhances the customer journey by eliminating the frustration of encountering unavailable options and streamlines the browsing process. Conversely, SE: Option Price Calculator tackles the complexity of pricing customizable and measurement-based products. It's specifically designed for businesses like sticker, blind, and cabinet makers that require dynamic pricing based on options, quantities, or dimensions. The key difference lies in their core functionality: Camouflage focuses on inventory management and improving the front-end customer experience related to product availability. It offers features to control the visibility of variants. SE: Option Price Calculator, on the other hand, concentrates on backend pricing calculations for complex product configurations, enabling merchants to accurately price customizable products using formulas, pricing tables, and metafields. While both apps are listed under the 'Custom Products' and 'Product Variants' categories, their applications are distinct. Camouflage enhances the usability of a product page, while SE: Option Price Calculator ensures accurate and dynamic pricing.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with enhancing their customer experience by addressing the issue of sold-out variants, Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants is the clear choice. Its high rating and significant number of reviews suggest a reliable and effective solution. The ability to hide, disable, or style unavailable options, coupled with advanced filtering based on various conditions, makes it a robust tool for optimizing product page usability.
However, businesses that specialize in customizable or measurement-based products, where pricing varies greatly depending on customer choices, will find SE: Option Price Calculator to be the more suitable option. Despite the lack of current ratings, its feature set, including pricing tables, formulas, and metafield integration, directly addresses the complexities of dynamic pricing in these industries. If accurate and flexible pricing of custom products is paramount, SE: Option Price Calculator is the logical selection.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on their descriptions, Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants is likely simpler to set up. Its core function of hiding/disabling variants is more straightforward than configuring pricing formulas and tables in SE: Option Price Calculator. SE: Option Price Calculator likely requires more technical expertise or a steeper learning curve.
Can both apps be used together?
Potentially, but with limited synergy. Camouflage focuses on what's *visible*, while SE: Option Price Calculator focuses on *price calculations*. A merchant *could* use SE: Option Price Calculator for pricing and Camouflage to hide a variant if the resulting price exceeds a certain threshold (though this is inferred, not explicitly supported). The utility of using both would be niche.
What if I only have a few sold-out variants occasionally?
If sold-out variants are rare, the investment in Camouflage might not be necessary. Shopify's built-in inventory management features might suffice, or manually editing product pages would be a more cost-effective solution. Camouflage is best for shops with a high turnover of inventory.
What if I don't sell customizable products; should I consider SE: Option Price Calculator?
No. SE: Option Price Calculator is specifically designed for customizable and measurement-based products. If your products have fixed prices and don't rely on complex calculations based on options, this app would be irrelevant and potentially add unnecessary complexity.
How important is the rating difference between the two apps?
The rating and number of reviews are significant. Camouflage has a perfect rating with a substantial number of reviews suggesting reliability and customer satisfaction. The zero rating for SE: Option Price Calculator, coupled with relatively few reviews, raises concerns. It could indicate issues with the app or simply a lack of user adoption. Further investigation (e.g., contacting the developer, looking for external reviews) would be prudent before choosing SE: Option Price Calculator.
