Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants vs Sortify ‑ Collection Sortfor Shopify (2026)
Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants and Sortify - Collection Sort are both Shopify apps addressing product variant visibility, but they tackle different aspects. Camouflage focuses on improving the customer experience by managing the visibility of sold-out variants. It allows merchants to hide, disable, or style these variants, preventing customer frustration. Its strength lies in its granular control over variant display based on inventory levels, customer attributes, and geographical location. Camouflage is tailored for merchants prioritizing a smooth and frustration-free customer journey. Sortify, on the other hand, is designed for collection management. It allows merchants to sort collections based on various criteria like bestseller status, price, stock levels, and product variants. Sortify aims to streamline product management and maximize conversions by showcasing relevant items and improving stock visibility. Its key strengths are its real-time multi-rule sorting capabilities and options for pinning featured products and randomizing collections. It's more suited for merchants with large inventories who need a robust solution for organizing and optimizing their product collections. While both apps touch on inventory management, Camouflage is about the *presentation* of inventory status, while Sortify is about *organization* based on inventory status and other factors.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with preventing customer frustration arising from sold-out variants, Camouflage: Hide Sold Variants is the clear choice. Its high rating and focus on granular control over variant display make it ideal for shops that want to ensure a smooth and satisfying shopping experience, regardless of inventory levels. The ability to hide variants based on location or customer tags offers an additional layer of sophistication.
However, if a merchant's primary need is to efficiently manage and optimize large product collections, particularly by showcasing bestsellers or prioritizing in-stock items, Sortify - Collection Sort could be considered *after* the rating is addressed and more user reviews are available, provided it demonstrably improves conversions. However, with the very low rating of 2/5, significant improvements must be made before it can be properly recommended.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the high rating and focused functionality of Camouflage, it's likely to be easier to set up and use than Sortify, which involves configuring multi-rule sorting for collections.
Can both apps work together on the same Shopify store?
Yes, potentially. Camouflage focuses on individual variant visibility, while Sortify focuses on collection-level organization. They could theoretically be used in conjunction to both hide sold-out variants and sort collections based on inventory and other factors. But it would depend on potential conflicts.
Does Sortify offer the ability to hide sold-out variants entirely?
Yes, Sortify offers the option to push down or *hide* out-of-stock products automatically. However, Camouflage provides more nuanced control over how sold-out variants are displayed (hide, disable, strike-through, style).
Which app is better for international stores?
Camouflage has a distinct advantage for international stores due to its ability to hide variants based on country. Sortify doesn't explicitly mention this capability.
Which app provides a greater return on investment (ROI)?
It depends on the merchant's priorities. If reducing customer frustration from sold-out items is a key goal, Camouflage is likely to provide a higher ROI. If efficient collection management and conversion optimization are more important, Sortify could be considered, but the current rating makes estimating the ROI more challenging.
