Canteen ‑ Deposits and Fees vs Heartcoding Sales & Discountsfor Shopify (2026)
Canteen ‑ Deposits and Fees and Heartcoding Sales & Discounts cater to vastly different needs within the Shopify ecosystem, despite sharing the 'Pricing' category. Canteen is highly specialized, focusing on automating deposit and fee management, particularly for businesses dealing with refundable deposits, environmental fees, or product-specific fees like bottle deposits (Pfand, CRV, etc.). Its strength lies in its flexible rule sets, customization options (thumbnails, tax controls), and Shopify POS support. The target audience is niche but well-defined: merchants who require granular control over mandatory or optional fees and deposits. Heartcoding Sales & Discounts, on the other hand, is a broad-based sales and discount management tool. It allows merchants to schedule sale campaigns, apply discounts storewide or to specific products, and create countdown timers and sale labels to enhance the customer experience. Its primary advantage is its ease of use and focus on bulk editing and customization of sales promotions, targeted toward merchants who want to quickly and efficiently manage their promotional strategies.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants who need to automate mandatory deposits and fees related to products like bottles, cans, or cores, Canteen ‑ Deposits and Fees is the clear choice. Its features are specifically designed to handle these scenarios, including international regulations like Pfand and CRV. The app's POS support is a significant advantage for brick-and-mortar businesses. However, if the primary goal is to manage sales campaigns, schedule discounts, and create visually appealing promotional elements, Heartcoding Sales & Discounts is the superior option. Its focus on ease of use and quick setup makes it ideal for merchants of all sizes looking to boost sales. While Canteen addresses a very specific pain point, Heartcoding serves a much broader need for general sales promotion.
