Canteen ‑ Deposits and Fees vs Mercado Pago Ordena checkoutsfor Shopify (2026)
Canteen ‑ Deposits and Fees and Mercado Pago Ordena checkouts are both Shopify apps related to pricing, but they address fundamentally different needs. Canteen focuses on automating the complex task of managing deposits and fees, particularly those related to environmental and recycling programs. It appears geared towards merchants in industries with complex deposit/fee structures (e.g., beverage distributors, retailers handling core charges). Mercado Pago Ordena checkouts, on the other hand, centers around payment gateway optimization, specifically prioritizing Mercado Pago checkouts within a store's payment options. It targets merchants who heavily rely on Mercado Pago and want to maximize its visibility and potentially increase sales approval rates. Canteen's strength lies in its flexible rule-building capabilities for a wide range of fees and deposits, tax controls, and POS support. This makes it a comprehensive solution for managing complex pricing scenarios. In contrast, Mercado Pago Ordena checkouts offers a singular function: prioritizing payment provider display. This specialization may be advantageous for Mercado Pago users seeking a simple solution to enhance their payment gateway's visibility. However, this simplicity might not be valuable to stores with no interest in optimizing Mercado Pago sales. Canteen currently enjoys much stronger user feedback and significantly more reviews, lending more credibility to its offering.

Our Verdict
For merchants needing to automate complex deposit and fee calculations, particularly those dealing with container deposits, environmental fees, or core charges, Canteen ‑ Deposits and Fees is the clear choice. Its robust feature set and strong user rating suggest a reliable and effective solution. Its POS integration further enhances its utility for businesses with in-store sales. It is better for stores with more complex pricing structures.
Conversely, Mercado Pago Ordena checkouts is only suitable for merchants who are already heavily invested in Mercado Pago and want a simple way to prioritize it during checkout. If you don't use Mercado Pago, or if it's just one of many payment options, this app offers no value. Given its limited functionality and low review count, cautious consideration is advised before installation.
