Canteen ‑ Deposits and Fees vs MultiVariants ‑ Bulk Orderfor Shopify (2026)
Canteen ‑ Deposits and Fees and MultiVariants ‑ Bulk Order are both Shopify apps in the Checkout category, but they cater to distinctly different needs. Canteen is specifically designed for merchants needing to automate and manage various deposits and fees, such as bottle deposits (Pfand, CRV, etc.), service charges, and surcharges. It offers granular control over fee configurations, tax handling, and checkout visibility. MultiVariants ‑ Bulk Order, on the other hand, facilitates bulk ordering for customers, likely focusing on businesses with a high volume of sales, business to business clients, or products with many variations. Canteen solves the specific problem of automating complex fee structures, ensuring compliance and accurate charging of deposits and other mandatory fees. This is particularly crucial for businesses in regulated industries or those dealing with refundable deposits. MultiVariants ‑ Bulk Order addresses the user experience of bulk purchases, streamlining the ordering process for customers who need to buy large quantities or numerous variations of products. While both apps can potentially influence checkout conversion rates, they do so by addressing entirely different friction points in the purchasing process.

Our Verdict
The choice between Canteen ‑ Deposits and Fees and MultiVariants ‑ Bulk Order hinges entirely on the specific needs of the Shopify merchant. If a business requires automated management of deposits, fees, or surcharges, especially in regions with specific regulations like CRV or Pfand, Canteen is the clear choice. Its features are tailored to handle the complexities of these requirements, ensuring accurate charges and compliance.
Conversely, if a business focuses on bulk sales, or offers products with a wide range of variations, MultiVariants ‑ Bulk Order is more appropriate. Its purpose is to streamline the bulk ordering process, making it easier for customers to purchase large quantities or many different versions of a product at once, enhancing the overall customer experience and potentially increasing average order value. While MultiVariants boasts a perfect 5/5 rating with significantly more reviews, that alone shouldn't sway the decision away from Canteen if the business truly needs to manage deposits and fees.
