Captain Shipping Protection vs SureBright Product Protectionfor Shopify (2026)
Captain Shipping Protection and SureBright Product Protection both aim to increase revenue and customer trust by offering shipping and/or product protection. However, their approaches differ significantly. Captain Shipping Protection emphasizes merchant control and ownership, allowing them to keep all protection fees and customize pricing and policies. It targets merchants who want full control over their shipping protection strategy and are comfortable managing claims (although they state they are not an insurance firm). SureBright Product Protection focuses on ease of use and revenue sharing. They manage the financial risk, claims, and customer support, making it suitable for merchants who prefer a hands-off approach and value extended warranty coverage beyond shipping protection. Captain Shipping Protection seems geared towards larger Shopify businesses that want to maintain control over their revenue and brand experience, even down to the shipping protection offered. SureBright, with its focus on revenue sharing and complete management of the process by the app provider, appears more suitable for smaller or time-constrained merchants. SureBright also offers more comprehensive product protection including accidental damage coverage which Captain Shipping Protection does not explicitly mention.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants who want maximum control over their shipping protection, including setting prices and managing policies, Captain Shipping Protection is the better choice. They can tailor the experience and retain all the revenue generated from protection fees. However, they must be prepared to handle claim disputes.
For merchants prioritizing ease of use and comprehensive coverage, including extended warranties and accidental damage, SureBright Product Protection is more suitable. The revenue-sharing model allows them to offer product protection without taking on the full financial risk or the burden of customer support, although their cut of revenue will be less. SureBright simplifies the process, making it attractive for smaller operations and those less interested in the complexities of shipping and product protection policies.
Common Questions
Does Captain Shipping Protection underwrite insurance policies?
No, Captain Shipping Protection explicitly states they are NOT an insurance firm and do NOT underwrite plans. They provide the platform and tools for merchants to offer their own protection plans, but the merchant ultimately assumes the risk and policy creation.
Does SureBright offer accidental damage protection?
Yes, SureBright Product Protection explicitly mentions offering comprehensive product protection plans covering accidental damage like product drops and liquid spills, whereas Captain Shipping Protection does not.
Which app is easier to set up?
Both apps claim easy setup. Captain Shipping Protection emphasizes a user-friendly design that doesn't add code to the store theme. SureBright emphasizes 'easy setup, no time commitment', suggesting a simpler, more automated installation process. Based on this, SureBright *might* be slightly easier, particularly for less tech-savvy merchants, but both seem reasonably straightforward.
Which app allows merchants to retain more revenue?
Captain Shipping Protection allows merchants to retain *all* shipping protection fees, while SureBright operates on a revenue-sharing model. Therefore, Captain Shipping Protection enables merchants to potentially earn more, assuming their claims rate is low.
Which app is better for customer support regarding claims?
SureBright handles all customer support and claim filing. Captain Shipping Protection provides the tools, but the responsibility of policy creation and ultimately customer claims lies with the merchant.
