CartonCloud vs steve | Fulfillment for Europefor Shopify (2026)
CartonCloud and steve | Fulfillment for Europe are both Shopify apps in the Third-party logistics (3PL) category, but cater to very different needs. CartonCloud positions itself as a comprehensive, easy-to-use TMS (Transportation Management System) and WMS (Warehouse Management System), geared towards businesses seeking to optimize internal logistics, particularly those already operating or aiming to build their own warehouse infrastructure. Its key strength lies in providing real-time visibility and control over warehouse operations. steve, on the other hand, is an outsourced fulfillment solution specifically tailored for e-commerce businesses targeting the European market, encompassing the EU, UK, and Switzerland. steve's primary focus is on providing a sustainable and efficient fulfillment experience for European customers, emphasizing speed, eco-friendly packaging, and ethical labor practices. The app offers an all-in-one solution, automating processes like packaging selection, route optimization, and carrier assignment. While CartonCloud empowers merchants to manage their own logistics with robust software, steve allows merchants to completely outsource their European fulfillment, focusing instead on other aspects of their business. The key difference lies in control vs. convenience, and geographic scope.

Our Verdict
Choosing between CartonCloud and steve depends heavily on your business model and target market. If you are a business already handling its own warehousing and distribution, or actively planning to do so, and you want comprehensive software to manage your operations more efficiently, CartonCloud is likely the better choice. Its features for scanning, picking, and providing real-time visibility could be invaluable. However, the lack of reviews is concerning and warrants further investigation before committing.
On the other hand, if your primary focus is on selling to customers in Europe and you prefer to outsource your fulfillment operations entirely, steve | Fulfillment for Europe is the superior option. Its emphasis on sustainability, fast delivery, and automated processes makes it a compelling choice for businesses looking to provide a premium fulfillment experience in the European market. The perfect 5/5 rating and initial reviews suggest a positive user experience.
Common Questions
Which app is better for a small business with limited resources?
steve | Fulfillment for Europe is likely better for small businesses wanting to outsource fulfillment to the EU/UK because it handles the complexities, letting them focus on other business areas. CartonCloud's WMS system likely requires more overhead and internal management.
Which app provides more control over the fulfillment process?
CartonCloud provides significantly more control, as it allows you to manage your own warehouse and logistics processes using its software. steve delegates fulfillment to niceshops, trading control for convenience.
Is CartonCloud suitable for businesses selling internationally?
While CartonCloud isn't explicitly limited geographically, its description lacks specific details about international shipping capabilities. It primarily focuses on optimizing warehouse operations, so international considerations might require further investigation. steve is explicitly for the EU.
Does steve handle customs and import duties for European orders?
The description of steve does not explicitly mention customs or import duties. This is a crucial factor for businesses selling to Europe and should be clarified with steve's team directly.
What are the potential risks of choosing an app with no reviews like CartonCloud?
Choosing an app with no reviews carries a significant risk. It's difficult to assess its reliability, ease of use, and the quality of customer support. Thoroughly research the company behind the app, seek independent feedback (if possible), and consider a trial period before committing.
