Chargeback: Auto Prevention vs EB: Fraud Filter, Bot Blockerfor Shopify (2026)
Chargeback: Auto Prevention and EB: Fraud Filter, Bot Blocker both target fraud prevention on Shopify, but they approach the problem from vastly different angles. Chargeback: Auto Prevention focuses on mitigating the *consequences* of fraud (chargebacks) by automating refunds when a dispute is initiated. Its strength lies in its ease of use and direct impact on avoiding fees and account shutdowns. It's ideal for merchants primarily concerned with the financial penalties associated with chargebacks, and who value a hands-off approach. EB: Fraud Filter, Bot Blocker, on the other hand, is a proactive tool that aims to *prevent* fraud from occurring in the first place. It offers a comprehensive suite of features for blocking unwanted visitors based on various criteria like location, IP address, and bot activity. Its strength is in its customizable filtering options, allowing merchants to fine-tune their defenses against a wider range of threats. EB: Fraud Filter is best suited for merchants experiencing significant problems with fraudulent orders, bot traffic, or unwanted visitors and who are willing to invest time in configuring the app to their specific needs. While they both share the 'Fraud' category on Shopify, their feature sets and target users are quite different.

Our Verdict
If your primary concern is the hassle and cost associated with chargebacks, and you prefer a hands-off solution, Chargeback: Auto Prevention is the better choice. Its automated refund system directly addresses the negative consequences of chargebacks.
However, if you are proactively dealing with a significant influx of bot traffic, fraudulent orders, or unwanted visitors, EB: Fraud Filter, Bot Blocker offers a more comprehensive set of tools to block and filter unwanted traffic before it becomes a problem. While it requires more configuration, its proactive approach can save you from dealing with the issues that lead to chargebacks in the first place. For stores that are heavily targeted by bots, EB: Fraud Filter is almost certainly the better choice. It also wins out if you require fine-grained control over which countries/IPs can access your site.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Chargeback: Auto Prevention appears to be easier to set up due to its focus on automation. EB: Fraud Filter, with its extensive blocking and filtering options, will likely require more configuration and ongoing management.
What happens if I use both apps?
The description for Chargeback: Auto Prevention specifically states it does not work with other chargeback alert apps. It's unlikely both could be used concurrently, and attempting to do so may cause conflicts. Assess your needs and choose one or the other. Using both could lead to unwanted interference and may not be worth the potential benefits, which could likely be gained with one app if configured properly.
Which app is better for a brand new store?
For a brand new store with limited traffic and order volume, Chargeback: Auto Prevention might be the more practical choice as it doesn't require extensive configuration. The merchant can deal with possible chargebacks by using a hands-off solution. EB: Fraud Filter's complex features would not be as valuable as a brand new shop would not experience this yet. It is a better choice for a shop with significant and targeted traffic, as it would be more effective at mitigating harmful bots.
Which app is more suitable for a high-risk industry?
If the high-risk industry leads to a higher frequency of chargebacks (due to customer disputes or fraud), Chargeback: Auto Prevention can help mitigate the damage. However, EB: Fraud Filter can contribute a layer of protection, it might not be enough and Chargeback Auto Prevention may still be more effective for these purposes.
Does either app guarantee 100% fraud prevention?
No. Neither app can guarantee complete fraud prevention. Chargeback: Auto Prevention focuses on *mitigating* the financial impact of chargebacks, while EB: Fraud Filter aims to *reduce* the incidence of fraudulent activity, but cannot eliminate it entirely.
