Chargeback: Auto Prevention vs OTP ‑ CoD Order Verificationfor Shopify (2026)
Chargeback: Auto Prevention and OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification both address fraud on Shopify, but tackle fundamentally different issues and cater to distinct merchant needs. Chargeback: Auto Prevention focuses on mitigating chargebacks, particularly by automating the refund process upon dispute initiation. It aims to prevent financial losses associated with chargebacks, money holds, and potential account shutdowns. OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification, on the other hand, targets fake or fraudulent Cash on Delivery (CoD) orders, a common problem in markets where CoD is prevalent. It uses OTP verification via WhatsApp, SMS, or email to confirm orders before fulfillment, reducing Return to Origin (RTO) rates and associated costs. The primary difference lies in their areas of focus. Chargeback: Auto Prevention is valuable for businesses experiencing high chargeback rates across all payment methods, offering protection against disputes after the order is placed. OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification directly tackles fraudulent order creation, specifically within the CoD payment method context, predominantly benefitting merchants operating in regions where CoD is a dominant payment option. One handles post-transaction dispute resolution, the other pre-transaction order validation.

Our Verdict
The choice between these apps depends heavily on the specific fraud challenges a merchant faces. If a business struggles with a high volume of chargebacks across various payment methods, especially due to customer disputes or 'friendly fraud,' Chargeback: Auto Prevention offers an automated solution to mitigate these losses. However, merchants need to be aware of its incompatibility with similar chargeback management apps.
On the other hand, OTP ‑ CoD Order Verification is ideal for merchants operating in regions where Cash on Delivery is a popular payment option and where they experience a significant number of fake or fraudulent CoD orders. For example, merchants in India, Pakistan, or the Philippines using CoD extensively would see direct benefits. If a merchant doesn't offer CoD, or experiences very low chargeback rates, neither may be necessary.
