Chargeback Specialist vs Fraud Judge Fraud Preventionfor Shopify (2026)
Chargeback Specialist and Fraud Judge Fraud Prevention both aim to reduce fraud and chargebacks for Shopify merchants, but they take fundamentally different approaches. Chargeback Specialist focuses on *responding* to chargebacks after they occur, leveraging AI and human review to build strong dispute responses and recover revenue. Its strength lies in its automated and adaptable approach to managing existing disputes. Fraud Judge, on the other hand, emphasizes *preventing* fraudulent orders in the first place through custom rules, ID verification, and address validation. Its strength is in its proactive, customizable protection against risky orders before fulfillment. Chargeback Specialist seems tailored for larger, higher-volume stores facing a significant number of chargebacks, where the automation and expert review would justify the cost. Fraud Judge, with its emphasis on customizable rules and manual verification steps (ID requests, address validation), might be a better fit for stores where manual order review is feasible and highly customized fraud prevention is desired. Despite both having perfect ratings, Chargeback Specialist has a slightly higher number of reviews, suggesting potentially wider adoption, or simply earlier access to its user base during its development.

Our Verdict
The best app depends on the specific needs of the merchant. If your primary concern is recovering revenue from existing chargebacks and you want an AI-driven, hands-off solution, Chargeback Specialist is the better choice. Its AI and human oversight seem designed for scalability. However, if your focus is on preventing fraud before it happens and you prefer a more hands-on approach with customizable rules and manual verification, Fraud Judge Fraud Prevention is likely more suitable. Smaller stores or those with specific, known fraud patterns might benefit more from the control that Fraud Judge offers.
For very large enterprises, a combined approach, using Fraud Judge to reduce the occurrence of chargebacks and then using Chargeback Specialist to fight the ones that still get through, could offer the most comprehensive protection. However, the cost of running both simultaneously would need to be carefully considered.
