Chargeback Specialist vs FraudLabs Pro SMS Verificationfor Shopify (2026)
Chargeback Specialist and FraudLabs Pro SMS Verification both address fraud prevention on Shopify, but take very different approaches. Chargeback Specialist focuses on *recovering* revenue lost to chargebacks by automating dispute responses using AI and human review. It is positioned as a comprehensive solution for fast-growing, high-volume stores to manage and even prevent chargebacks. FraudLabs Pro SMS Verification, on the other hand, focuses on *preventing* fraud at the point of purchase by authenticating the buyer's phone number using SMS verification. It aims to filter out non-serious buyers and fraudsters before they complete a purchase. The core difference lies in their target stage in the fraud lifecycle: Chargeback Specialist helps after a chargeback has occurred, while FraudLabs Pro SMS Verification aims to stop fraudulent orders before they even happen. Chargeback Specialist emphasizes a combination of AI and human expertise, suggesting a higher level of complexity and potentially a higher cost, while FraudLabs Pro SMS Verification offers a more straightforward, immediate method of verification.

Our Verdict
For established, high-volume stores that are already experiencing a significant number of chargebacks, Chargeback Specialist is likely the better option. Its AI-powered automation and human review promise a robust solution for recovering revenue and preventing future disputes. The higher rating and review count further support its effectiveness.
For smaller stores, or those primarily concerned with preventing fraud before it occurs, FraudLabs Pro SMS Verification might be a good starting point. Its SMS verification offers a straightforward method of authenticating buyers. However, the very low rating and small number of reviews should be a cause for concern and necessitate thorough research and testing before implementation. Merchants must carefully evaluate the balance between security and potential friction for legitimate customers when implementing SMS verification.
