Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with optimizing the checkout process for international customers by presenting relevant payment options, CI Country Payment Rules *could* be considered. However, the complete lack of reviews raises significant concerns, making it a very risky choice in 2026. Geolocation Orbe is the clear choice for merchants actively managing multiple Shopify Markets or using Global-e to expand internationally. Its established reputation, positive reviews, and feature set focused on store personalization and redirection make it a much safer and more effective option for businesses targeting a global audience and needing to direct them to the correct store experience.
In short, Geolocation Orbe is the more mature and feature-rich app. It's best for merchants who've already invested in Shopify Markets/Global-e. CI Country Payment Rules might suit a very specific niche, but only if the merchant is comfortable being an early adopter and potentially facing unforeseen issues.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to use?
Geolocation Orbe's integration with the theme editor suggests a more user-friendly customization process. CI Country Payment Rules lacks user reviews to assess ease of use.
Does CI Country Payment Rules support currency conversion?
No, CI Country Payment Rules focuses on payment method selection, not currency conversion. Geolocation Orbe indirectly manages currency by redirecting users to the correct store version.
Can Geolocation Orbe hide payment methods?
No, Geolocation Orbe focuses on directing users to the appropriate storefront, which would then present the relevant payment options for that market. It does not directly manipulate payment method visibility.
Which app is better for a store that only ships to one country?
Neither app is really designed for single-country stores. Geolocation Orbe is definitely not necessary. CI Country Payment Rules might be helpful if the merchant offers different payment options within that one country based on some criteria (e.g., region), but that's unlikely.
What are the risks of using CI Country Payment Rules given its lack of reviews?
The primary risks include potential bugs, lack of support, incompatibility with other apps, and unreliability. With no user feedback, it's difficult to gauge the app's performance and stability.
