Cin7 Omni vs Materials Inventoryfor Shopify (2026)
Cin7 Omni and Materials Inventory are Shopify apps designed to manage inventory, but they cater to distinct merchant types with varying levels of complexity and different priorities. Cin7 Omni positions itself as a comprehensive solution for businesses needing to manage inventory across multiple sales channels, warehouses, and stores, with a focus on EDI capabilities and 3PL integration. Its strength lies in its ability to handle complex, multi-location inventory management and automate order workflows for larger operations. However, its very low rating of 1.9 stars from only 25 reviews suggests potential issues with user experience or reliability. Materials Inventory, on the other hand, is geared towards makers and manufacturers, specifically those managing raw materials and finished products. Its strength lies in its ease of use, real-time inventory synchronization, and focus on profitability tracking. Its perfect 5-star rating from 49 reviews indicates high user satisfaction and usability. The difference is clear; Cin7 Omni aims for comprehensive omnichannel solutions, while Materials Inventory targets material-based manufacturing businesses.

Our Verdict
For merchants managing a complex omnichannel operation with multiple sales channels, warehouses, and EDI requirements, Cin7 Omni might appear to be the initially suitable choice based on its feature set. However, the significantly lower rating and limited number of reviews raise significant concerns about its reliability and usability. Materials Inventory is more appropriate for smaller manufacturers and makers who need to manage raw materials, track profitability, and generate purchase orders. Its perfect rating and positive descriptions of usability make it a more appealing and reliable option for those specific needs. Given the current data, unless the negative reviews of Cin7 Omni can be specifically addressed and resolved, Materials Inventory is the safer and more recommended option for its target audience. Cin7 Omni may be a suitable option if the merchant's business requires EDI capabilities and they are willing to invest in considerable troubleshooting and support to implement, however, the reviews do not currently support the use of this app.
