ClearSale Fraud Protection vs Subunofor Shopify (2026)
ClearSale Fraud Protection and Subuno both aim to protect Shopify merchants from credit card fraud and chargebacks, but they approach the problem with different strategies and target different user segments. ClearSale positions itself as a comprehensive, data-science-backed solution emphasizing both fraud prevention and customer experience by minimizing false declines. Their focus is on maximizing revenue by approving more valid orders. Subuno, on the other hand, offers a more rules-based, customizable fraud prevention platform allowing merchants to fine-tune their screening process without coding. They highlight ease of customization and integration with existing workflows. ClearSale emphasizes chargeback recovery and improving customer experience by reducing false declines, suggesting a focus on larger merchants with significant transaction volume where false declines can have a notable impact. Subuno's features such as manual review tools, third-party integrations, and customizable rules point towards merchants seeking greater control and flexibility in their fraud prevention process. ClearSale mentions AI technology and proprietary advanced analysis, implying a 'hands-off' approach, while Subuno emphasizes 'rules-based' prevention and advanced data analytics, suggesting a more 'hands-on' approach. It's important to note the discrepancy in review numbers. While Subuno has a perfect 5/5 rating, it's based on only 4 reviews compared to ClearSale's 3.5/5 rating from 42 reviews. This makes ClearSale's rating arguably more statistically relevant, despite being lower.

Our Verdict
For larger Shopify stores with a substantial order volume, the comprehensive, data-science-backed approach of ClearSale Fraud Protection might be the better choice, particularly if minimizing false declines and recovering chargebacks is a priority. The AI-driven automation could also reduce the burden on internal resources. However, the lower rating should be considered, and further research into recent reviews and support experiences is advisable.
For smaller to medium-sized businesses, or those that prefer greater control and flexibility in their fraud screening process, Subuno could be a more suitable option. The ability to customize rules without coding, integrate with third-party tools, and utilize manual review features allows for a more tailored approach. The perfect rating is promising, but the low number of reviews warrants caution. Prospective users should thoroughly investigate the platform and contact Subuno's support to assess its suitability for their specific needs.
