CM: Catalog2Cart‑Shoppable PDF vs GrootApps ‑ Custom Metafieldsfor Shopify (2026)
CM: Catalog2Cart‑Shoppable PDF and GrootApps ‑ Custom Metafields, while sharing the Metafields category, serve distinctly different purposes for Shopify merchants. CM: Catalog2Cart‑Shoppable PDF focuses on transforming static PDF catalogs into interactive shopping experiences. It aims to improve customer engagement and drive conversions by allowing customers to directly add products to their cart from a catalog. In contrast, GrootApps ‑ Custom Metafields empowers merchants to add and manage custom data across various Shopify entities like products, collections, and customers. It's designed to extend the functionality of the Shopify platform by enabling the storage and use of information beyond the standard fields. The primary difference lies in their target audience and the problems they solve. Catalog2Cart targets merchants with existing product catalogs who want to modernize their presentation and shopping flow. GrootApps, on the other hand, caters to merchants who require flexible data storage and management capabilities to customize their store and personalize customer experiences. The user experience also differs substantially; Catalog2Cart prioritizes creating interactive PDFs, while GrootApps focuses on providing a robust metafield management interface. As of 2026, based on the limited available information, the lack of reviews for Catalog2Cart raises questions about its adoption and real-world performance.

Our Verdict
GrootApps ‑ Custom Metafields appears to be the more reliable choice for most merchants in 2026, given its perfect rating and positive reviews. Merchants who need to extend their Shopify store's data model and implement custom functionality will find GrootApps a valuable tool. CM: Catalog2Cart‑Shoppable PDF might be suitable for merchants with existing print catalogs looking for a digital transformation strategy, but the complete absence of reviews necessitates caution. Its usefulness is highly dependent on the quality of the PDF conversion and user experience, factors that cannot be assessed based on the limited data. Until CM: Catalog2Cart‑Shoppable PDF gains some positive traction and user validation, GrootApps is the safer bet.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Based on the descriptions, CM: Catalog2Cart‑Shoppable PDF might seem easier initially if the PDF integration is seamless. However, GrootApps may become easier once configured, especially if you've worked with Metafields before. Without real-world user experiences for Catalog2Cart, it's impossible to definitively say.
Which app is better for increasing sales?
CM: Catalog2Cart‑Shoppable PDF directly aims at boosting sales by making catalogs shoppable. However, the effectiveness depends on execution. GrootApps does not directly increase sales but allows for customizations, which can indirectly influence conversions if implemented strategically.
Which app stores data securely?
GrootApps emphasizes that it stores all data within Shopify, suggesting a higher level of security and alignment with Shopify's infrastructure. There is no mention of data storage practices in CM: Catalog2Cart‑Shoppable PDF's description, raising potential concerns.
Which app needs technical skills to configure?
GrootApps likely requires some technical skills, especially for displaying the custom metafield data on the storefront. CM: Catalog2Cart‑Shoppable PDF might be simpler initially but could require troubleshooting if the PDF integration process is not straightforward.
Can both apps work together?
Yes, potentially. You could use GrootApps to add metafields to products featured in a Catalog2Cart-created shoppable PDF, allowing for richer product information. However, this would require careful planning and execution to ensure a cohesive customer experience.
