COD King‑COD Fees & OTP Verify vs PayRules: Hide Payment Methodsfor Shopify (2026)
COD King and PayRules both address payment method optimization on Shopify, but they target different pain points and offer distinct solutions. COD King positions itself as a comprehensive solution for reducing Return-to-Origin (RTO) rates and fraudulent Cash on Delivery (COD) orders. Its primary focus is verifying customer intent and incentivizing prepaid orders through features like OTP verification, partial payments, and COD fees. PayRules, on the other hand, is specifically designed to control the visibility of payment methods at checkout based on various rules. While both apps tangentially relate to COD management, PayRules offers a targeted approach to payment method presentation, while COD King provides a broader suite of tools for risk mitigation and conversion optimization within the COD payment ecosystem.

Our Verdict
For merchants struggling specifically with RTO and fraudulent COD orders, particularly in India and Egypt, COD King is the clear choice. Its OTP verification, partial payments, and COD fee features directly address these issues. However, if the primary concern is simply controlling which payment methods customers see based on factors like location, order value, or product type, PayRules is a more focused and potentially easier-to-manage solution. Merchants should carefully assess their specific needs and priorities before choosing between these apps, potentially trialing both to determine the best fit. COD King may have a steeper learning curve due to its broader functionality but potentially higher ROI if RTO is a major problem.
Common Questions
Which app is better at preventing fake COD orders?
COD King is explicitly designed to prevent fake COD orders using SMS/WhatsApp OTP verification. PayRules does not offer this functionality.
Can both apps hide COD based on location?
COD King states it can show or hide COD based on location and other parameters. PayRules likely can as well based on its broad 'payment method visibility control' functionality.
Which app is more likely to increase prepaid conversions?
COD King directly incentivizes prepaid conversions by offering discounts and adding fees to COD orders. PayRules focuses on controlling payment method visibility and doesn't inherently promote prepaid options.
Is COD King only useful for merchants in India and Egypt?
While COD King specifically highlights support for India and Egypt, its core features like OTP verification and COD fees could be valuable in other regions where COD is prevalent and RTO is a concern. Testing is required for full support in other countries.
If I want only to hide Cash on Delivery (COD) above a certain order amount, which app do I need?
PayRules is the more focused option if your only need is to hide COD based on certain rules, such as the order amount. COD King can also do this but provides additional features around RTO and OTP verification that you may not need.
