CodeUp ‑ Add Custom Code vs Puco Sections: Theme Sectionsfor Shopify (2026)
CodeUp ‑ Add Custom Code and Puco Sections: Theme Sections serve very different purposes for Shopify merchants. CodeUp targets merchants who need to insert custom code snippets (CSS, JavaScript, tracking pixels, etc.) into their storefront, offering a simplified way to modify their website's behavior and appearance beyond the capabilities of their theme's built-in settings. It prioritizes ease of use and direct code control. In contrast, Puco Sections: Theme Sections aims to provide a large library of pre-designed sections and blocks that merchants can integrate into their theme editor without coding, focusing on expanding design options and conversion optimization. The primary difference lies in their approach to customization. CodeUp is for direct code injection, giving precise control but requiring some technical knowledge. Puco Sections offers a no-code solution with pre-built components, streamlining the design process but limiting customization to the parameters within those sections. This difference strongly influences the target merchant: CodeUp suits those comfortable with basic coding or needing to implement tracking scripts, while Puco Sections caters to merchants seeking broader design enhancements without coding experience.

Our Verdict
The choice between CodeUp and Puco Sections depends heavily on the merchant's technical skill and their specific needs. If you need to add specific tracking pixels, verify your site with third-party platforms, or make very granular CSS tweaks, CodeUp is the better choice. Its straightforward code injection functionality provides the necessary control. However, be aware that you will need some technical expertise.
On the other hand, if you're looking to significantly expand your theme's design options without writing code and improve conversion rates through ready-made sections, Puco Sections is the superior option. Its vast library and theme editor integration offer a convenient and efficient way to enhance your store's visual appeal and functionality, without the complexities of direct code manipulation.
Common Questions
Which app is better for adding a Facebook Pixel?
CodeUp is specifically mentioned as a tool for adding a Facebook Pixel, making it a direct and simple solution for this purpose. Puco Sections does not offer this functionality directly, unless it is integrated within one of its pre-built sections.
Can I customize the sections provided by Puco Sections?
While Puco Sections offers customization within the parameters defined for each section, the overall structure and code of the sections are pre-built and not directly modifiable. You are limited to adjusting settings available in the Theme Editor.
Is CodeUp suitable for merchants without coding experience?
Merchants without any coding experience might find CodeUp challenging to use effectively. While the app is described as 'easy to use', that refers to the deployment process of existing code. Understanding what the code does and how to write it requires some coding knowledge.
How does Puco Sections impact website speed?
The description states that Puco Sections is "Built for performance and speed." However, adding a large number of sections could potentially impact loading times if not implemented judiciously. Consider testing performance after adding numerous sections.
Does either app offer support for dynamic content?
CodeUp allows for injection of any type of code, including dynamic code, so it supports dynamic content as long as the code you enter does. Puco Sections does not explicitly state whether sections can display dynamic content, so it depends on the individual section's design.
