Codify COD vs InstaCOD ‑ Cash On Deliveryfor Shopify (2026)
Codify COD and InstaCOD ‑ Cash On Delivery are both Shopify apps designed to help merchants manage Cash on Delivery (COD) orders, aiming to reduce losses and improve control. Codify COD focuses primarily on reducing Return to Origin (RTO) losses by verifying orders through OTP (One-Time Password) and limiting COD availability based on various criteria such as product, location, and order value. It is positioned as a comprehensive solution for merchants struggling with fake COD orders and high RTO rates. InstaCOD, on the other hand, emphasizes flexibility in controlling COD availability and adding fees. It targets merchants seeking to incentivize prepaid orders and fine-tune their COD offerings based on specific conditions like discounts, order totals, and customer profiles. The key difference lies in their primary approach. Codify COD leans heavily on OTP verification and granular control over COD eligibility, while InstaCOD prioritizes fee customization and conditional visibility of the COD payment option. While both allow adding fees to COD orders, Codify COD also includes features like sending reminders and automatically cancelling unverified orders, adding a layer of automation not explicitly mentioned in InstaCOD's description. The disparity in the number of reviews (15 for Codify COD versus 1 for InstaCOD) suggests a potentially larger user base and longer track record for Codify COD.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with combating fake COD orders and reducing RTO losses, Codify COD appears to be the stronger choice due to its OTP verification features and granular control over COD availability. The higher number of reviews further suggests a more established and tested solution. However, if the primary goal is to flexibly manage COD visibility based on various conditions such as discounts, order totals, and shipping rates, and to easily add fees, InstaCOD might be more suitable. InstaCOD's strength lies in its conditional COD visibility, allowing merchants to tailor the payment options offered to different customer segments or order types.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on the specific needs and priorities of the merchant. Merchants should carefully consider whether OTP verification and RTO reduction are critical, or if greater flexibility in conditional COD visibility is more valuable to their business strategy. The limited review count of InstaCOD should also be factored into the decision-making process; further research or trials might be necessary to assess its reliability and effectiveness.
