Our Verdict
For merchants focused on building an on-site community and generating authentic customer feedback through blog comments, product discussions, and direct interaction, Commentify is the better choice. Its moderation features and threaded replies promote a controlled and engaging environment. However, for merchants lacking on-site reviews and seeking a quick and easy solution to display social proof by leveraging reviews from other reputable sources, OneReview is the more appropriate option. Its simple setup and integration with existing review apps make it ideal for those prioritizing speed and ease of implementation.
Common Questions
What's the main difference between generating my own reviews vs pulling them from other websites?
Generating reviews on your own store through an app like Commentify is authentic and relevant, but takes time to build up. Pulling reviews from external sources using an app like OneReview offers immediate social proof but might not be as specific or personalized as on-site reviews.
Can I use both apps simultaneously?
Yes, although there may be overlap, they address different needs. OneReview can provide immediate social proof, while Commentify builds a long-term community and collects authentic feedback directly on your site. Use caution so the experience is not confusing to customers.
Which app is better for SEO?
Both can contribute to SEO. Commentify can generate fresh, user-generated content in the form of comments and reviews, which search engines may index. OneReview may improve click-through rates from search results by displaying star ratings, though it doesn't directly add new text content to your pages.
Is it possible to customize the look and feel of these review displays?
Commentify states that the design of the comments is automatically adjusted to your theme's styles. OneReview offers customizable widgets, and provides one free white-glove customization.
Which app is better suited for a new online store with no existing reviews?
OneReview is generally a better starting point for a new store, as it quickly populates product pages with reviews from other sources, establishing initial social proof. As the store gains traction, Commentify can be implemented to cultivate on-site reviews and community engagement.
