Courses Plus vs MP Digital Downloadsfor Shopify (2026)
Courses Plus and MP Digital Downloads, while both enabling the sale of digital products on Shopify, cater to distinct merchant needs. Courses Plus positions itself as a comprehensive eLearning platform, focusing on creating and selling structured online courses with features like quizzes, assignments, certifications, and even team enrollments. It aims at merchants who want to monetize their knowledge by building educational content, complete with student management tools. MP Digital Downloads, on the other hand, centers around streamlined digital product delivery, emphasizing instant, secure download links for various file types, with built-in analytics for tracking downloads and customer behavior. It's designed for merchants looking for a straightforward solution to sell and deliver digital goods such as eBooks, software, or license keys, without the complexities of course creation and management. The zero reviews on MP Digital Downloads pose a serious issue regarding trust and product viability as of 2026. The fundamental difference lies in the complexity and target product. Courses Plus is designed for creating and managing full online courses, complete with student interaction. MP Digital Downloads is designed for simply delivering digital files and is far less involved. The lack of reviews for MP Digital Downloads is a very big concern. Merchants should consider this when choosing between them as it is a major signal of unknown reliability.

Our Verdict
For merchants looking to build and sell structured online courses with student interaction, quizzes, and certifications, Courses Plus is the clear choice. Its comprehensive feature set caters specifically to the eLearning market. However, merchants simply needing to deliver digital files quickly and securely with download tracking should consider MP Digital Downloads, assuming they are comfortable with the app's lack of reviews. Given the absence of user feedback and the crucial importance of reliability in digital product delivery, prospective users of MP Digital Downloads should proceed with extreme caution or wait for more data to emerge. Due to the uncertainty surrounding MP Digital Downloads, Courses Plus appears to be the safer choice.
Common Questions
Which app is better for selling a simple PDF eBook?
Both apps can technically sell a PDF eBook, but MP Digital Downloads is designed specifically for that use case with the features built around instant file delivery and analytics. Courses Plus may be overkill, unless the eBook is part of a larger course.
Can I offer subscriptions with both apps?
Only Courses Plus explicitly mentions subscription support for recurring revenue. MP Digital Downloads doesn't seem to have any subscription functionality.
Which app is easier to set up?
Without user reviews for MP Digital Downloads, it's hard to say definitively. However, its focused feature set suggests it might be simpler to configure for basic digital product delivery. Courses Plus, with its broader range of features, might require more initial setup time.
Is one app more secure than the other?
MP Digital Downloads highlights secure download links and file protection measures. Courses Plus focuses more on course content and student management, with no specific mention of security for basic file downloads.
Which app is best for creating an actual online course with modules and quizzes?
Courses Plus is designed for creating online courses with features for quizzes, assignments, and student progress tracking, making it the clear winner for that purpose. MP Digital Downloads is not a course creation tool.
