CPB ‑ Custom Product Builder vs LensAdvisor: Prescription Lensfor Shopify (2026)
CPB ‑ Custom Product Builder and LensAdvisor: Prescription Lens cater to distinctly different segments of the custom product market on Shopify. CPB focuses on enabling merchants to offer highly configurable products with numerous options, conditional logic, and advanced pricing calculations. It excels at supporting complex product personalization with file uploads, SKU management, and integrations with other systems. LensAdvisor, on the other hand, specifically targets merchants selling prescription eyewear and contact lenses, streamlining the prescription capture and fulfillment process, including integrations with optical labs. The primary difference lies in the scope of customization they support. CPB is a general-purpose custom product builder, suitable for various product types where customers define attributes like material, color, and dimensions. LensAdvisor is highly specialized, addressing the unique requirements of selling prescription eyewear, such as managing prescriptions, pupillary distance (PD) measurements, and lens options. Both offer visual customization, but CPB emphasizes live previews and interactive printable areas, while LensAdvisor focuses on a seamless prescription checkout experience.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling general custom products with complex configuration options and requiring features like advanced pricing and inventory management, CPB ‑ Custom Product Builder is the clear choice. Its extensive customization capabilities and integrations make it suitable for businesses offering a wide range of personalized products. However, the complexity might require a slightly higher initial investment in setup and learning.
If the sole focus is selling prescription glasses, sunglasses, or contact lenses, LensAdvisor: Prescription Lens is the superior option. Its specialized features for prescription capture, lens selection, and integration with optical labs provide a streamlined solution tailored specifically to the eyewear industry. The higher rating and focused feature set suggest a more user-friendly experience for eyewear-specific needs.
Common Questions
Which app is better for selling custom t-shirts with uploaded designs?
CPB ‑ Custom Product Builder would be a better choice for custom t-shirts, especially if you offer various sizes, colors, and print areas. Its file upload capabilities and printable area features are designed for this type of customization. LensAdvisor isn't designed to handle this.
Can I use LensAdvisor to sell non-prescription sunglasses?
While LensAdvisor is primarily designed for prescription eyewear, it might still be useful for managing frame inventory and visual configuration of sunglasses. However, its prescription-specific features would be unnecessary in this case. You might find CPB more suitable, or even a basic variant management app.
Does CPB ‑ Custom Product Builder handle real-time inventory updates as customers customize products?
Yes, CPB claims to integrate with Shopify inventory and has a robust SKU constructor and inventory tracking, implying real-time updates based on selected options.
How does LensAdvisor ensure prescription accuracy?
LensAdvisor allows customers to upload prescriptions as images or PDFs, enter them manually, or receive them via email. While the app facilitates capture, the accuracy ultimately depends on the customer and the partner optical labs verifying the prescription before fulfillment.
Are either of these apps suitable for a beginner Shopify store owner?
LensAdvisor, due to its focused nature, is likely easier to learn and implement for a beginner solely focused on selling prescription eyewear. CPB, with its advanced features and broader customization options, may require more technical expertise or a willingness to learn more complex configurations.
