Our Verdict
Geolocation & Markets—Selecty appears to be the stronger choice for most merchants seeking to immediately improve the international customer experience and boost global sales using Shopify Markets. Its high rating and significant number of reviews suggest that it effectively delivers on its promises. Crowdin, while potentially valuable for businesses requiring robust translation workflow management with granular control over the translation process, suffers from a complete lack of reviews, making it a riskier choice. Businesses with very specific translation needs that cannot be met by other means might consider Crowdin, but should proceed with caution.
Common Questions
Which app is better for simply translating my store?
Crowdin is designed specifically for translation management. However, the lack of reviews makes it difficult to recommend confidently. Geolocation & Markets—Selecty facilitates localization through its geo-targeting and language selection features, which implicitly involve translation but don't offer translation management tools.
Which app is better for automatically displaying the correct currency to customers?
Geolocation & Markets—Selecty is specifically designed for this, with its currency switcher and geolocation-based currency display. Crowdin does not offer currency functionality.
Does Crowdin automatically translate my store content?
Crowdin streamlines the process of sending content to its translation platform and downloading completed translations, automating aspects of the translation workflow, but it doesn't seem to provide machine translation itself. Human translation or integrating a machine translation service is still likely necessary.
Is Geolocation & Markets—Selecty compatible with all Shopify themes?
While the description doesn't explicitly mention theme compatibility, apps like Geolocation & Markets—Selecty often need to be adjusted to work seamlessly with every theme. Contacting the app developer to confirm compatibility with your specific theme is recommended.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the available information, Geolocation & Markets—Selecty likely offers a simpler setup experience, focusing on visual front-end elements. Crowdin, with its emphasis on translation management and workflow, likely requires more configuration and potentially a steeper learning curve, especially with no user feedback to confirm ease of use.
