Currency Converter Bear vs Liltfor Shopify (2026)
Currency Converter Bear and Lilt, while both falling under the 'Currency and Translation' category in the Shopify app store, address distinct needs of Shopify merchants. Currency Converter Bear focuses on automatically displaying prices in a customer's local currency based on their geolocation. It prioritizes a seamless shopping experience for international customers by providing up-to-date exchange rates and design customization options. Lilt, conversely, positions itself as an AI-powered translation solution for entire stores, emphasizing translation of store content into multiple languages with options for instant or human-verified quality. The key differentiator lies in their primary function: Currency Converter Bear handles currency display and conversion, aiming to make prices understandable to international customers. Lilt translates the entire store's content, targeting merchants looking to offer a fully localized experience, including product descriptions, store policies, and other textual elements. While both apps contribute to internationalization, they do so through different mechanisms, catering to different levels of market penetration and budget. The large discrepancy in the number of reviews (109 vs. 1) suggests that Currency Converter Bear currently enjoys greater user adoption and potentially greater trust among merchants, which is a significant factor in 2026, as app selection becomes increasingly reliant on community validation and proven reliability.

Our Verdict
For merchants looking for a simple and effective way to display prices in their customers' local currencies, Currency Converter Bear is the clear choice. Its ease of use, automatic geolocation detection, and integration with Shopify Markets make it a practical solution for businesses starting to expand internationally. The higher number of reviews also indicates greater reliability and user satisfaction.
Lilt, on the other hand, is geared towards larger businesses or those with a strong emphasis on localization. The investment in translating the entire store, potentially using human-verified translations, suggests a commitment to providing a fully immersive experience for customers in specific markets. However, given the lack of reviews, merchants should proceed with caution and carefully evaluate whether the additional features and cost are justified compared to alternative translation solutions in 2026.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Currency Converter Bear is likely easier to set up and use, given its singular focus on currency conversion and automatic geolocation detection. Lilt's translation workflow involves more steps and content management.
Which app is more cost-effective?
The cost-effectiveness depends on the specific pricing models (not provided) and the merchant's needs. If only currency conversion is required, Currency Converter Bear is likely more affordable. Lilt's translation services, especially with human verification, will likely be more expensive.
Does Lilt automatically detect and translate languages like Currency Converter Bear detects currencies?
No, Lilt requires you to send your content for translation. It's not an automatic language detection and translation app like Currency Converter Bear's currency detection.
Can I use both Currency Converter Bear and Lilt together?
Yes, it's possible to use both apps together. Currency Converter Bear can handle currency conversion, while Lilt can translate the store's content into different languages.
Is Lilt truly enterprise-grade in 2026 considering it only has one review?
The claim of being 'enterprise translation' by Lilt is questionable given the single review. Merchants should thoroughly investigate their claims and compare with competitors before considering it an enterprise solution.
