Currency Converter Plus vs Geolocation Orbefor Shopify (2026)
Currency Converter Plus and Geolocation Orbe are both highly-rated (5/5) Shopify apps designed to facilitate international sales, but they take different approaches. Currency Converter Plus focuses primarily on automatic currency conversion based on IP geolocation. Its strength lies in its simplicity and wide currency support (222 currencies). It targets merchants who want a straightforward solution for displaying prices in local currencies without extensive configuration or store redirection. Geolocation Orbe, on the other hand, centers around geolocation-based store redirection and language switching, with deeper integration into Shopify Markets and Global-e setups. While it also handles currency, its key features emphasize customizable popups and country selectors for guiding customers to the appropriate version of the store based on their location and language. This makes it suitable for merchants using Shopify Markets or Global-e to manage multiple international stores and who need more control over the customer's store selection experience. Geolocation Orbe also focuses on saving user preferences for future visits, which Currency Converter Plus does not appear to offer.

Our Verdict
For merchants who simply want to display prices in local currencies without managing multiple stores, Currency Converter Plus is the more straightforward option due to its easy setup and broad currency support. Its 'no configuration' approach provides immediate value. However, for merchants actively using Shopify Markets or Global-e to manage distinct international stores and requiring granular control over the user experience, including store redirection, language switching, and customized geolocation popups, Geolocation Orbe is the better choice. It offers a more comprehensive solution for creating a localized shopping experience.
While both apps have 5-star ratings, Geolocation Orbe's higher number of reviews suggests a potentially larger user base and more established reputation, however, this is not conclusive. The specific features and focus on store redirection make Geolocation Orbe the superior choice for complex, multi-store international setups, while Currency Converter Plus excels in simple, effective currency conversion.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Currency Converter Plus likely offers a simpler setup due to its claim of requiring 'no configuration' for basic currency conversion. Geolocation Orbe, while user-friendly, requires more customization of popups and settings.
Which app is better for stores using Shopify Markets?
Geolocation Orbe is designed with direct integration into Shopify Markets, providing a more seamless experience for managing multiple storefronts based on location.
Which app offers more control over the user's store selection experience?
Geolocation Orbe provides more control through customizable geolocation popups and a country selector, allowing customers to actively choose their preferred store version.
Which app supports more currencies?
Currency Converter Plus explicitly states support for 222 currencies, including cryptocurrencies and precious metals. Geolocation Orbe's currency support is likely tied to Shopify Markets and is therefore limited to the currencies supported by the selected Markets.
