Our Verdict
For merchants seeking a straightforward, hands-off solution to display prices in local currencies, Currency Converter Plus is the clear winner. Its automatic detection, wide currency support, and compatibility with Shopify Markets make it a robust and reliable choice. The higher number of reviews lends credibility to its claim of being a professional and stable solution.
However, if the priority is to create highly customized, location-aware experiences for your customers, and you need to redirect customers to a specific page, or offer specific language options, Redirector provides the flexibility and control necessary. It's well-suited for merchants running targeted marketing campaigns or offering localized promotions. Even though the review count is small, that's not a sign it's a poor app: some apps are newer and have small audiences that are very niche.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Currency Converter Plus appears to be easier to initially set up since it requires no configuration out of the box. Redirector, while activated in theme settings, requires defining custom redirection rules and potentially using the HTML editor, demanding more configuration.
Can both apps be used to show prices in local currency?
Currency Converter Plus directly converts prices to local currencies. While Redirector can be used to redirect users to different stores based on location (where prices may be in local currency), it doesn't inherently convert prices. Its currency functionality relies on merchant implementation.
Which app is better for running location-based marketing campaigns?
Redirector is explicitly designed for location-based marketing campaigns, offering sophisticated redirection rules and the ability to display localized information and offers.
Which app is better for stores that use Shopify Markets?
Currency Converter Plus states explicit compatibility with Shopify Markets. Redirector does not mention direct compatibility, but some of the marketing and custom redirect capabilities could apply.
If I just want my international customers to see a localized welcome banner, which app should I choose?
Redirector is the better choice for this scenario. Its HTML editor and redirection rules allow you to create and display targeted banners based on location or language, providing a personalized welcome.
