Data Exporter ‑ Tax Compliance vs Mipler — Advanced Reportsfor Shopify (2026)
Data Exporter - Tax Compliance and Mipler - Advanced Reports, while both falling under the 'Finances' category on Shopify, cater to distinctly different needs. Data Exporter - Tax Compliance focuses on a very specific requirement: exporting unaltered data for tax compliance in select countries (Australia, France, Germany). Its strength lies in its compliance focus. Mipler - Advanced Reports, on the other hand, is a comprehensive reporting tool designed for deep data analysis and visualization. It allows merchants to create custom reports, analyze various data points (including metafields and tags), and share reports with ease. The primary difference lies in their purpose. Data Exporter is for fulfilling legal tax obligations by providing unaltered data, whereas Mipler is about gaining business insights through customized data analysis and reporting. Data Exporter targets merchants specifically needing to comply with regulations in supported countries, while Mipler aims for merchants seeking to understand and improve their store's performance through data. Furthermore, customer perception of the two apps differs wildly, with Mipler holding significantly more positive reviews (492) and a perfect 5/5 rating, in contrast to Data Exporter's 1.7/5 rating based on a very small sample size (7 reviews). Our Verdict
For merchants solely focused on tax compliance in Australia, France (Article 88), or Germany (GoBD), and who require simple, unaltered data exports, Data Exporter - Tax Compliance might seem like the directly relevant app. However, the extremely low rating and few reviews should raise serious concerns. Mipler - Advanced Reports, with its overwhelmingly positive reviews and comprehensive feature set, offers a much more robust solution for merchants seeking to understand their business through data. While it may not directly fulfill specific legal requirements out-of-the-box, its custom reporting capabilities potentially allow for building tax-related reports.
Ultimately, Mipler presents a greater overall value for most Shopify merchants. If a merchant *only* needs to fulfill the specific tax requirements in the supported countries and the data output of Data Exporter is sufficient (despite the poor reviews), and they cannot replicate that same output by customizing Mipler, then *maybe* it is the right solution. However, given the high rating and advanced features of Mipler, attempting to customize it to fulfil their tax needs would be a better first choice. In nearly all other cases, Mipler's versatility, positive user feedback, and advanced reporting features make it the stronger choice.
