Our Verdict
Based on the available data, Digital Downloads - MEGA appears to be the superior choice for most merchants in 2026. While Digital Downloads might seem appealing due to its simplicity, the extremely low rating suggests significant issues with the app or its support. Merchants should be extremely cautious when dealing with an app with such a low rating. Digital Downloads - MEGA, with its perfect rating and richer feature set, offers a more robust and reliable solution, even though it might have fewer reviews.
For merchants specifically needing only the most basic digital download functionality and willing to accept potential support issues based on the low rating, Digital Downloads *might* be considered, but a very careful trial period and monitoring of customer feedback are strongly advised. Digital Downloads - MEGA is the preferred choice for anyone serious about building a digital product business on Shopify.

Neither app explicitly mentions file size limits, but Digital Downloads ‑ MEGA's 'unlimited' claim suggests it may be better suited for larger files, although further investigation is needed to confirm practical limitations.
Which app is easier to set up?

Digital Downloads ‑ MEGA, despite offering more features, could potentially have a streamlined setup process – user reviews are key to understanding the true complexity.
Does Digital Downloads ‑ MEGA really offer unlimited downloads?
The app description for Digital Downloads - MEGA mentions 'Unlimited Digital Downloads'. However, it's important to review the app's terms and conditions to understand what is truly meant by 'unlimited' and whether there are any hidden restrictions or fair usage policies.
Which app offers better customer support?
Neither app explicitly details their support offerings. However, the significantly lower rating of Digital Downloads suggests potential issues with support, making Digital Downloads - MEGA the safer bet.
