Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing data acquisition and willing to experiment with incentivized consent, Discount Cookie - GDPR banner might be worth considering, provided they carefully assess the ethical implications and ensure compliance. However, given the lack of reviews, it presents a higher risk. For merchants who prioritize a user-friendly, compliant, and transparent consent process, Ekookie - Consent V2 ready appears to be the safer and potentially more effective choice. Its higher rating, focus on user experience, and comprehensive GDPR features suggest a more reliable and well-rounded solution. Especially for merchants newer to GDPR compliance, Ekookie's pre-configured cookies and editorials offer a distinct advantage.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Both apps claim to offer easy setup: Discount Cookie with one-click installation and Ekookie with automatic creation and installation. Without user reviews, it's difficult to definitively say which is easier. However, Ekookie's pre-configured cookies may simplify the initial configuration process.
Which app is more focused on user experience?
Ekookie clearly prioritizes user experience with its 'innovative and entertaining approach,' 'discreet and customizable widget,' and 'educational editorials and micro-animations.' Discount Cookie focuses more on data collection.
Which app is better for GDPR compliance?
While both claim GDPR compliance, Ekookie's description suggests a more comprehensive approach. The app explicitly states it blocks cookies before consent and stores consents, fulfilling key GDPR requirements. Discount Cookie, while claiming compliance, relies on incentivizing acceptance, which might not be considered best practice depending on implementation.
Which app provides more customization options?
Both apps offer customization. Discount Cookie allows customization of banner wording, location, size, and the discount code. Ekookie allows advanced personalization of the widget and offers ready-to-use editorials. The choice depends on what aspects of the banner the merchant wants to customize; Discount Cookie for design and discount, Ekookie for a tailored editorial experience.
What are the risks of using Discount Cookie's incentivized approach?
If not implemented carefully, incentivized consent might be perceived as coercive, potentially undermining the validity of the consent under GDPR. It's crucial to ensure users genuinely understand their rights and have a free choice to accept or reject cookies without feeling pressured.
