Discounty: Bulk Discount Sales vs Shopify Subscriptionsfor Shopify (2026)
Discounty: Bulk Discount Sales and Shopify Subscriptions serve fundamentally different purposes for Shopify merchants. Discounty focuses on boosting sales through various discounting strategies, offering features like automatic discounts, BOGO deals, volume discounts, and cart discounts. Its strength lies in its versatility and ease of use for implementing diverse promotional campaigns. It targets merchants seeking immediate sales increases and higher average order values (AOV). Shopify Subscriptions, on the other hand, aims to build recurring revenue and improve customer lifetime value (CLTV) by allowing merchants to offer subscription-based products. The core difference is in their approach to revenue generation. Discounty emphasizes short-term sales spikes through promotions, while Shopify Subscriptions focuses on long-term, predictable income streams. While both apps fall under the broader category of "Selling products," their functionalities rarely overlap. A store could reasonably use both apps simultaneously: using Discounty for occasional sales and flash promotions, while offering core products as subscriptions through Shopify Subscriptions.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with driving short-term sales and experimenting with different promotional strategies, Discounty: Bulk Discount Sales is the clear choice. Its higher rating and positive reviews suggest a better user experience and more effective discount implementation. It's suitable for businesses wanting to quickly implement promotions and boost their average order value.
However, for businesses aiming to build a sustainable, recurring revenue stream and improve customer lifetime value, Shopify Subscriptions is the necessary tool. While its lower rating suggests potential usability challenges, it provides the core functionality for managing subscription products and recurring billing. If a merchant needs both, they are complementary and can be used together.
