DPO Dynamic Product Options vs EXPO ‑ Extra Product Optionsfor Shopify (2026)
DPO Dynamic Product Options and EXPO ‑ Extra Product Options both enable Shopify merchants to offer customized products through enhanced product options and variants. DPO boasts a perfect 5/5 rating based on a substantial 290 reviews, suggesting a high level of user satisfaction and potentially broader appeal. EXPO, while slightly lower rated at 4.9/5 with only 50 reviews, directly positions itself as a solution for merchants selling custom-made, printable, or engraved items, indicating a niche focus. EXPO's strength lies in its explicit targeting of merchants who require extensive customization options, offering 100+ options and features like automated currency conversion and compatibility with translation apps, making it suitable for international sellers. It provides a wide range of input types (button, checkbox, color/image swatches, file uploader, date/time picker) and advanced features such as conditional option display and extra fees/discounts based on customer choices. DPO, with its higher rating and larger review base, might appeal to merchants looking for a generally reliable solution, though without the specific niche focus detailed by EXPO.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling custom-made, printable, or engraved products, EXPO is the more targeted solution, offering a robust feature set including automated currency conversion and conditional logic. It's geared towards those requiring extensive customization options and potentially caters better to stores with international customers.
However, for merchants seeking a generally reliable and well-regarded product option app, DPO Dynamic Product Options, with its perfect rating and higher review count, presents a safer choice, especially if their customization needs aren't as specialized or complex as those addressed by EXPO. The higher number of reviews on DPO may indicate wider adoption and a more established user base, which some merchants find reassuring. Choosing between them depends greatly on the specific needs of the merchant and the products they're selling.
Common Questions
Which app is better for international sales?
EXPO appears better suited for international sales because it explicitly mentions automatic currency conversion and compatibility with translation apps. DPO doesn't mention these features in its description.
Which app is easier to use?
While both apps aim to simplify product customization, DPO's higher rating and more substantial review count might indirectly suggest a more user-friendly experience. However, this is speculative without further information.
Which app is more cost-effective?
Pricing information isn't provided for either app, making it impossible to determine which offers better value for money. Cost effectiveness will depend on the pricing plans and the specific features required by the merchant.
Does DPO support conditional product options like EXPO?
The product description for DPO doesn't explicitly mention conditional product options. EXPO states it will 'Automatically expand next options when the customer selects a certain option.'
Which app is better for stores with a small number of reviews?
Both apps are viable options, but a new store may feel more comfortable with DPO due to the higher number of reviews and rating. This provides increased social proof of the quality of the app.
