Dr Stacked Discounts on Cart vs Essential Upsell & Cross Sellfor Shopify (2026)
Dr Stacked Discounts on Cart and Essential Upsell & Cross Sell are both Shopify apps that fall under the 'Checkout' and 'Cart customization' categories, but they address very different aspects of optimizing the customer's shopping experience. Dr Stacked Discounts focuses on leveraging discounts and promotions to increase conversion rates and average order value (AOV) by making discounts more visible and easier to apply. It emphasizes discount code stacking, automatic discounts, and free shipping promotions. Its primary appeal is to merchants wanting to enhance their promotional strategies and make their discount policies more attractive to customers. Essential Upsell & Cross Sell, on the other hand, targets AOV improvement through strategic product recommendations. It focuses on suggesting related products, frequently bought together items, and product bundles throughout the customer journey, including product pages, the cart drawer, and even post-purchase. Its main objective is to increase sales by proactively suggesting additional products to customers. Merchants seeking to capitalize on upselling and cross-selling opportunities, particularly those with a diverse product catalog, will find this app more suitable.

Our Verdict
For merchants whose sales strategy hinges on frequent discounts, and who want to allow customers to stack codes for ultimate savings, Dr Stacked Discounts is the clear choice. Its emphasis on making discounts accessible and easily visible can be a powerful tool for driving conversions, especially if you already have a discount strategy in place.
However, if your store has a wide range of complementary products and you're looking to boost AOV by subtly suggesting related items or enticing customers with bundles, then Essential Upsell & Cross Sell is the more appropriate solution. It focuses on leveraging product relationships to increase the value of each order, and is beneficial even if you don't rely heavily on discounts as a sales driver.
