DRIP: Returns For Sale Widget vs Protect for Shipments & Causesfor Shopify (2026)
DRIP: Returns For Sale Widget and Protect for Shipments & Causes are both Shopify apps that address returns, but in fundamentally different ways. DRIP focuses on monetizing unsellable-as-new inventory like open box returns by facilitating their direct sale on the merchant's website. It emphasizes customizability, speed of implementation, and control over the customer relationship. In contrast, Protect aims to enhance the customer experience and protect merchant revenue by providing shipping protection and allocating a portion of proceeds to charitable causes. It outsources claims handling and presents a 'no-cost' model where the app covers claim costs exceeding collected fees. DRIP caters to merchants with a volume of returns or damaged inventory they want to sell, while Protect targets merchants aiming to improve customer satisfaction and brand image by offering shipping protection and supporting social causes.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on maximizing revenue from returned or slightly damaged goods, DRIP: Returns For Sale Widget is the more suitable choice. Its focus on selling these items directly on the website, combined with branding options and direct customer interaction, provides greater control and potential profit. Its high rating and customer service obsession are also attractive. However, for merchants who prioritize enhancing the customer experience, providing shipping protection, and aligning with social causes, Protect for Shipments & Causes is a better fit. While its rating is lower and review count is significantly less, the 'no-cost' model and outsourced claims handling could be appealing, particularly for businesses seeking to minimize operational overhead.
