Dropit Auctions vs Gather: Refer a Friendfor Shopify (2026)
Dropit Auctions and Gather: Refer a Friend both aim to enhance sales, but they employ vastly different strategies. Dropit Auctions focuses on creating a sense of urgency and competitive bidding through reverse auctions, targeting merchants with unique or limited inventory seeking price discovery and a dynamic sales approach. It leverages FOMO (fear of missing out) and customer-driven pricing. Gather, on the other hand, focuses on leveraging existing customer relationships through referral programs, offering rewards for customer acquisition and lead generation. It aims for a lower CPA (cost per acquisition) and higher ROAS (return on ad spend) by capitalizing on word-of-mouth marketing.

Our Verdict
For merchants with scarce or rare goods struggling with pricing or wanting to inject excitement into their sales process, Dropit Auctions presents a compelling option. The reverse auction format can drive engagement and potentially reveal higher price points than traditional sales. However, the single review and reliance on high traffic should be considered.
Gather: Refer a Friend is a more suitable choice for businesses seeking a predictable, scalable, and lower-cost customer acquisition channel. The higher review count offers more social proof, and the focus on referral programs aligns with a long-term growth strategy. The ability to customize rewards and integrate with Klaviyo further enhances its appeal for established brands.
