DS Shipping Rates Zip Distance and ShipX ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules both aim to provide Shopify merchants with advanced control over their shipping rates, but they cater to different segments and offer distinct advantages. DS Shipping Rates Zip Distance positions itself as a highly customizable solution offering over 25 conditions for shipping rate calculation, including zip code, product attributes, distance, and carrier rates. It emphasizes precision and control, particularly for merchants needing to blend rules, block PO boxes, or implement custom shipping logic. ShipX focuses on simplifying shipping rate calculations through an intuitive interface and features like AI-based packaging for smart rates. It targets a broader audience, including dropshippers, by offering item & origin-based rates. While both apps offer similar core functionality like postcode/zip code-based shipping, ShipX leverages AI and integrations with popular shipping platforms like Starshipit and Sendle. Our Verdict
For merchants requiring extremely fine-grained control over their shipping rates and complex rule blending, DS Shipping Rates Zip Distance is the better option, provided they are willing to invest time in learning the system. Its ability to use over 25 conditions and implement specific shipping logic is unmatched. However, for the majority of Shopify merchants, especially those seeking a more user-friendly and automated solution, ShipX ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules is the superior choice. Its AI-based packaging, integrations with popular shipping platforms, and larger user base make it a more reliable and efficient solution for managing shipping rates.
Common Questions

Does either app support live carrier rates?
DS Shipping Rates Zip Distance explicitly states it supports 'live CCS shipping rates' and lists integration with carriers. While ShipX integrates with shipping platforms like Starshipit and Sendle which would have Carrier Calculated Shipping API functionality, it doesn't explicitly state supporting live CCS shipping rates directly.
Which app is better for dropshipping?
