EditEngine Bulk Product Editor vs File Manager ‑ Custom Foldersfor Shopify (2026)
EditEngine Bulk Product Editor and File Manager ‑ Custom Folders both exist within the Shopify ecosystem, but cater to vastly different needs despite sharing the 'Bulk editor' category. EditEngine focuses on streamlining product management by enabling merchants to perform bulk edits to product details, prices, inventory, SEO, and metafields. Its core strength lies in its robust editing capabilities, preview functionality, operation history, and scheduling feature, making it an essential tool for merchants managing large product catalogs. In contrast, File Manager ‑ Custom Folders provides file management, potentially including product images and other related media, but does not offer the extensive product editing functionality present in EditEngine. The critical distinction lies in their purpose: EditEngine directly manipulates product data, while File Manager ‑ Custom Folders appears to be more concerned with organizing the media and assets associated with products. Given their different features, user ratings and reviews should be considered with context. EditEngine has a much higher rating (5/5) and a significantly larger number of reviews (19) compared to File Manager ‑ Custom Folders (3.7/5 with only 3 reviews). This suggests a higher level of satisfaction among EditEngine users regarding its specific function.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants struggling with bulk product updates, EditEngine Bulk Product Editor is the clear choice. Its advanced filtering, comprehensive editing capabilities, real-time previews, and one-click revert functionality offer a significant advantage in managing large product catalogs efficiently and accurately. The high rating and positive reviews further reinforce its value proposition for this specific use case.
File Manager ‑ Custom Folders, on the other hand, serves a different purpose. If a merchant's primary concern is organizing product images and other media assets, then that app may be useful. However, it lacks the product data editing capabilities of EditEngine. Merchants should carefully consider their specific needs and prioritize either data manipulation or file organization when making their decision. In the absence of clear indication that File Manager offers product data editing, EditEngine is the more effective tool for the majority of Shopify merchants looking for a bulk editor.
Common Questions
Which app is better for managing product prices in bulk?
EditEngine Bulk Product Editor is explicitly designed for this purpose. It allows you to bulk edit product prices, preview the changes, and revert if necessary. File Manager ‑ Custom Folders does not appear to offer this functionality.
Can I use File Manager ‑ Custom Folders to edit product descriptions?
Based on the information provided, File Manager ‑ Custom Folders is not designed for editing product descriptions or any other product data. EditEngine is the appropriate choice for this task.
Is it possible to undo changes made by either app?
EditEngine offers a one-click revert functionality, providing a safety net for bulk edits. There's no indication that File Manager offers a similar undo feature for file operations.
Which app is easier to learn and use?
EditEngine likely has a slightly steeper learning curve due to its extensive feature set. However, the real-time preview and one-click revert functionality should minimize the risk of errors and make it relatively user-friendly. File Manager, focusing primarily on file organization, will likely be easier to pick up but less powerful for product data manipulation.
Which app offers a better return on investment for a store with hundreds of products?
EditEngine provides a greater return for stores needing to modify product data across multiple products. The time savings achieved by bulk editing, scheduling, and the reduced risk of errors due to the preview and undo functions are valuable assets. While file organization is useful, it's less immediately impactful than editing product details for conversions and sales.
