Essential Trust Badges & Icons vs Google Customer Reviews Appiofor Shopify (2026)
Essential Trust Badges & Icons and Google Customer Reviews Appio, while both categorized under 'Badges and icons' in the Shopify app store, address different aspects of building trust. Essential Trust Badges & Icons focuses on providing merchants with a customizable library of visual cues like badges, banners, and icons to highlight guarantees, features, and payment options. It empowers merchants to design and place these elements strategically on their site. Google Customer Reviews Appio, on the other hand, centers around leveraging the credibility of Google by displaying the Google Seller Ratings badge and enabling the collection of customer reviews through Google's platform. The key difference lies in the trust-building mechanism. Essential Trust Badges & Icons relies on the merchant's ability to create and display persuasive visual elements, while Google Customer Reviews Appio leverages the authority of Google and real customer feedback. Essential Trust Badges & Icons provides more design flexibility but requires more effort from the merchant. Google Customer Reviews Appio integrates directly with Google's ecosystem, offering a streamlined approach to collecting and displaying reviews, but it is dependent on customers submitting feedback through Google. The app with 554 reviews offers a much more trustworthy and consistent experience than the app with only 1 review, which should be a red flag for new users.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking complete control over the visual elements used to build trust and who are comfortable designing their own badges and banners, Essential Trust Badges & Icons is the better choice. It allows for a highly customized approach to showcasing guarantees and features. However, the app with 1 review should probably be avoided until more users have tested it.
Conversely, for merchants who want to leverage the power of Google and prefer a more automated approach to collecting and displaying customer reviews, Google Customer Reviews Appio is more suitable, assuming the merchant already utilizes Google Merchant Center and values the credibility of Google's ratings system. While the Google Customer Reviews Appio offers Google validated trust signals, the lack of reviews indicates it is a risky choice compared to the proven trust in Essential Trust Badges & Icons which has hundreds of reviews.
