Essential Upsell & Cross Sell vs Qikify Checkout Customizerfor Shopify (2026)
Essential Upsell & Cross Sell and Qikify Checkout Customizer both aim to increase Average Order Value (AOV) through upsells and cross-sells, but they target different points in the customer journey. Essential Upsell focuses on pre-checkout strategies, offering features like 'frequently bought together' recommendations on product pages and in the cart drawer, aiming to influence purchasing decisions before the customer reaches the checkout. Qikify Checkout Customizer, conversely, concentrates on the checkout page itself. It allows merchants to customize the checkout experience with custom fields, offers upsells directly within the checkout flow, and implements fraud prevention rules. Essential Upsell & Cross Sell boasts a significantly higher number of reviews (1004) and a perfect 5/5 rating, suggesting widespread positive experiences. Its strength lies in its comprehensive suite of pre-checkout upsell and cross-sell options, including post-purchase upsells and automatic discount promotions. Qikify Checkout Customizer, while having a slightly lower rating (4.8/5) and far fewer reviews (48), differentiates itself through its checkout customization capabilities, fraud prevention measures, and checkout-specific upsells. It's also built with Checkout Extensibility for Shopify B2B and Markets, indicating a focus on more complex use cases.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on boosting AOV through product page and cart recommendations, leveraging upsell bundles and post-purchase opportunities, Essential Upsell & Cross Sell appears to be the stronger choice, given its high rating and substantial user base. Its ease of integration and broad suite of pre-checkout upsell options make it attractive for a wide range of Shopify store owners.
However, if checkout customization, fraud prevention, and integration with Shopify B2B and Markets are critical requirements, Qikify Checkout Customizer is the better option. Its ability to add custom fields, validate checkout rules, and offer upsells directly within the checkout flow provides more control over the final stages of the customer journey. For Shopify Plus merchants needing advanced customization with custom apps, Qikify is the only choice of the two.
