Essential Upsell & Cross Sell vs Wiz: Checkout upsell & contentfor Shopify (2026)
Essential Upsell & Cross Sell and Wiz: Checkout upsell & content both aim to increase Average Order Value (AOV) through upsells and cross-sells, but they focus on different areas of the customer journey. Essential Upsell & Cross Sell prioritizes pre-purchase upselling and cross-selling on product pages and within the cart drawer. It offers a broader range of placement options, including frequently bought together recommendations, product bundles, and automatic discounts. It appears to cater to merchants who want comprehensive product page and cart-based upsell strategies. Wiz: Checkout upsell & content, on the other hand, concentrates on optimizing the checkout experience itself. It focuses on converting shoppers within the checkout flow by adding upsells, volume discounts, and A/B testing different elements. Wiz's strength lies in its ability to customize the checkout page and implement post-purchase upsells. This makes it a strong choice for merchants looking to maximize revenue during and immediately after the purchase. While Essential Upsell boasts significantly more reviews and a perfect rating, Wiz's focus on checkout conversion optimization may appeal to merchants struggling with cart abandonment or looking to refine their checkout process specifically. Wiz has strong options in A/B testing and customizing the look and feel of the checkout, which Essential Upsell does not. Ultimately, the 'best' app depends on the merchant's specific needs and priorities.

Our Verdict
If you're primarily concerned with increasing AOV through product page and cart recommendations, bundles, and product addons, Essential Upsell & Cross Sell is likely the better choice due to its wide range of placement and product recommendation options. Its high rating and large number of reviews suggest a stable and well-received product. However, if your priority is maximizing conversion rates within the checkout process itself and optimizing post-purchase flows, Wiz: Checkout upsell & content is the more suitable option. Its A/B testing capabilities and checkout customization features provide a more targeted approach to improving the checkout experience. Its post-purchase upsells offer a unique advantage. Given the lower review count, new merchants should consider whether the checkout focus trumps the established user base.
