Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants seeking a quick and easy way to enhance user experience and reduce cart abandonment by displaying recently viewed products, ESSY Recently Viewed Products is a viable option, *provided* its lack of reviews is acceptable and the user is willing to test it thoroughly. Its simple customization and user-friendly interface make it suitable for smaller stores or merchants without technical expertise.
However, for merchants managing larger catalogs and prioritizing data-driven merchandising to maximize revenue and minimize manual effort, ST: Product & Collection Sort is the superior choice. Its advanced features for automated collection sorting based on revenue, views, and other metrics provide a comprehensive solution for optimizing product placement and boosting sales. The positive user reviews further validate its effectiveness and reliability.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
ESSY is likely easier to set up due to its focus on theme editor customization and lack of coding requirements. ST: Product & Collection Sort, with its data-driven sorting rules, will require more initial configuration.
Which app requires access to more data?
ST: Product & Collection Sort requires significantly more data, including past order data, GA4 data, and potentially metafields, to function effectively. ESSY only needs to track recently viewed products.
Which app is better for a small store with limited technical skills?
ESSY is the better choice for a small store with limited technical skills, assuming the lack of reviews isn't a deterrent. Its ease of use and simple functionality make it a more accessible option.
Can both apps be used simultaneously?
Yes, theoretically. However, consider how they might overlap or conflict. Displaying recently viewed products and simultaneously re-sorting collections could create a confusing user experience if not carefully managed.
Which app offers a free trial?
The provided data does not specify if either app offers a free trial. You would need to check the Shopify App Store listings for that information.
