EUVAT.app – B2B Reverse Tax vs Tax Rex ‑ Sales Tax Automationfor Shopify (2026)
EUVAT.app – B2B Reverse Tax and Tax Rex ‑ Sales Tax Automation address fundamentally different needs related to taxation for Shopify merchants. EUVAT.app focuses specifically on automating VAT handling for B2B transactions within the European Union, encompassing features like VIES validation, reverse charge application, and support for net and gross pricing. It caters to merchants dealing with EU VAT regulations, particularly those involved in B2B sales and handling OSS or non-OSS setups. Tax Rex, on the other hand, is geared towards US merchants managing sales tax obligations. It automates report generation, tax filing, and economic nexus monitoring within the United States. The key distinction lies in their geographical focus and the type of tax they address. EUVAT.app is designed for EU VAT compliance, while Tax Rex is for US sales tax compliance. The review counts and ratings also highlight a significant difference in user adoption and perceived value. Tax Rex boasts a substantially higher number of reviews with a perfect rating, suggesting broader appeal and a stronger track record among US merchants. EUVAT.app, although more specialized, has considerably fewer reviews, which could indicate a smaller user base or potentially less awareness.

Our Verdict
The choice between EUVAT.app and Tax Rex hinges entirely on the merchant's geographical location and tax obligations. If you are selling B2B within the European Union and need assistance with VAT compliance, especially reverse charge mechanisms, EUVAT.app is the more appropriate solution. However, its limited reviews and lower rating compared to Tax Rex should be considered.
If you are a US-based merchant or a merchant selling into the US and need assistance with sales tax reporting, filing, and economic nexus monitoring, Tax Rex is the clear winner. Its overwhelmingly positive reviews and focus on US sales tax make it a more reliable and efficient choice for US compliance needs. While EUVAT.app might be the only available option for EU B2B VAT automation for some, the user reviews and ratings should be considered.
Common Questions
Which app is better for a merchant selling both in the EU and the US?
Neither app fully covers both regions. A merchant selling in both the EU and US would ideally need both apps, or potentially a third all-in-one solution if such a product exists in 2026 that comprehensively handles both EU VAT and US sales tax. EUVAT.app only handles EU VAT, and Tax Rex only handles US sales tax.
Does EUVAT.app handle US sales tax?
No, EUVAT.app's description and features clearly indicate it is designed solely for EU VAT compliance, specifically focusing on B2B transactions and reverse charge mechanisms within the European Union.
Does Tax Rex work for VAT in the EU?
No, Tax Rex is specifically designed for US sales tax. It generates reports and automates filing for US states and addresses economic nexus thresholds within the US. It doesn't cover VAT compliance for EU sales.
Is Shopify Plus required to collect VAT numbers with Tax Rex?
The description for Tax Rex doesn't mention anything about Shopify Plus requirements. The description for EUVAT.app mentions that the collect & validate VAT at checkout feature is only available for Shopify Plus.
Which app has better customer support?
Without direct access to customer support performance metrics, it's difficult to definitively say. However, the higher number of reviews and perfect rating for Tax Rex *might* indicate more satisfied customers overall, which *could* correlate with better support. But it's not guaranteed.
