Evertreen ‑ Plant Your Tree vs Lift: Charity and Donationsfor Shopify (2026)
Evertreen - Plant Your Tree and Lift: Charity and Donations both offer Shopify merchants ways to integrate charitable giving into their business, but they take fundamentally different approaches. Evertreen directly links purchases to tree planting, offering a tangible and marketable environmental benefit. It positions itself as a sustainability solution for businesses looking to improve their environmental and social responsibility. Lift, on the other hand, is a broader donation platform aimed at both non-profits seeking to raise funds and businesses wanting to offer customers donation options during the checkout process. The key difference lies in the level of control and specificity. Evertreen automates the tree planting process based on order volume or specified dollar amounts, providing a clear 'one order, one tree' value proposition. Lift offers more flexible giving options like round-ups, custom amounts, and tiered donations. Lift also caters to multi-channel support including Point of Sale integrations where Evertreen focuses on online storefronts. Therefore, Evertreen is specifically targeted at businesses that want a simple way to associate purchases with environmental action, while Lift is designed for a wider range of use cases where flexibility in donation options is important.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants specifically seeking to tie purchases directly to environmental action through tree planting, Evertreen is the clearer choice. Its simplicity and focus on a single, impactful action make it ideal for brands wanting a straightforward sustainability initiative. The public profile feature also provides a valuable marketing angle for environmentally conscious customers.
However, if a merchant needs greater flexibility in how donations are collected (round-ups, tiers, etc.) or wants to support existing charities, Lift is the better option. Its POS integration also makes it more suitable for businesses with both online and physical store locations. Lift's broader donation tools make it a more versatile choice for businesses and nonprofits with diverse fundraising needs, while Evertreen is more specialized for direct environmental impact.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Evertreen claims a 2-minute setup, suggesting it might be slightly simpler to initially configure than Lift, though Lift claims 'seamless store integration'.
Can customers choose which charity to support with Evertreen?
No, Evertreen automatically plants trees as a direct result of purchases. Customers aren't choosing a specific charity, but contributing to reforestation efforts.
Does Lift handle tax receipts for donations?
The description doesn't explicitly state that Lift handles tax receipts. It is crucial to confirm the app handles tax receipts for donors, as that will factor into usefulness.
Which app provides more detailed donation reporting?
Lift is described as offering 'clear reports on donations and payments,' while Evertreen focuses on showcasing your 'forest' on a public profile, suggesting Lift offers more granular financial reporting.
If I am a Non-profit, which app should I choose?
If your primary goal is to raise funds, Lift is likely more suitable given its features tailored for nonprofits, such as donation tiers and match-funding, which are designed to encourage larger contributions. Evertreen is primarily designed to allow businesses to contribute, not to be used as a fundraising platform directly.
