EZ Checkout Controller | Rules vs Opus Cart Upsell Cart Drawerfor Shopify (2026)
EZ Checkout Controller | Rules and Opus Cart Upsell Cart Drawer, while both categorized under 'Checkout' in the Shopify App Store, address fundamentally different aspects of the checkout process. EZ Checkout Controller | Rules focuses on control and restriction, allowing merchants to define rules for order limits, payment methods, shipping methods, and even block unwanted traffic. It's about refining who can buy what, where, and how. Opus Cart Upsell Cart Drawer, on the other hand, is designed to boost AOV and conversions by enhancing the cart experience with upsells, cross-sells, free gifts, and urgency cues. The primary distinction lies in their objectives: EZ Checkout Controller | Rules aims to manage and constrain the checkout process to mitigate risks and enforce specific rules, whereas Opus Cart Upsell Cart Drawer aims to optimize the cart page to increase revenue and customer engagement. One is focused on backend control, the other on frontend conversion optimization. The dramatically different number of reviews (7 vs 406) suggests a significant difference in market adoption and potential user experience data available to merchants, though both maintain a perfect 5/5 rating based on their respective sample sizes. Opus also focuses on identifying why customers abandon their carts using its built-in analytics, a feature entirely missing in EZ Checkout Controller. EZ Checkout Controller | Rules appears to be beneficial for merchants selling regulated products, those needing tight control over order fulfillment, or those experiencing fraudulent activity. Opus Cart Upsell Cart Drawer seems best suited for merchants prioritizing revenue growth through enhanced cart experiences and are actively seeking to increase AOV.

Our Verdict
If you need stringent control over who can purchase what, where, and how on your Shopify store, specifically to prevent fraud or comply with regulations, EZ Checkout Controller | Rules is the better choice. Its IP blocking, order limit features, and T&C enforcement are tailored to that purpose. However, the low number of reviews indicates a need for thorough testing.
For merchants whose primary focus is to increase AOV and improve the customer shopping experience within the cart, Opus Cart Upsell Cart Drawer is the clear winner. Its features like upsells, free gifts, and urgency timers are designed to drive sales, and its abandoned cart analytics provide valuable insights. The high volume of positive reviews provides additional confidence.
