Our Verdict
Merges AI ‑ Merge Products is the clear choice for merchants specifically seeking to consolidate duplicate product listings into a single, unified product with native variants. Its AI-powered automation, SEO preservation, and compatibility with existing themes make it a compelling solution for businesses looking to streamline their product management and improve customer experience. This is especially true for merchants dealing with a large number of variants or complex product options.
File Manager ‑ Custom Folders, while potentially useful, lacks sufficient data to make a strong recommendation. If a merchant is primarily focused on general file organization and needs a system for managing product images, documents, and other digital assets within their Shopify store, they *could* consider it, but the low rating and limited reviews raise concerns. Further investigation or alternative file management solutions might be warranted.
Common Questions
Which app offers a more comprehensive solution for improving product discoverability?
Merges AI ‑ Merge Products likely offers a more direct impact on product discoverability by consolidating multiple listings into a single, more robust product page. This can lead to improved SEO and a better customer experience, potentially boosting sales.
How do the apps differ in their impact on store loading speed?
File Manager's impact on store loading speed is likely minimal unless poorly optimized images are being managed. Merges AI claims 'no theme changes' implying that the impact on store load speed is also minimal. A badly implemented product merge could create bloated variant data however.
Is either app likely to require significant technical expertise to set up and use?
File Manager, being a file management tool, likely requires minimal technical expertise. Merges AI aims to simplify product merging with its AI features, but understanding product data and variant structures will still be necessary. Thorough testing is recommended to validate it works as expected.

Are these apps able to manage custom data that I have with my products?
Merges AI claims to keep custom data intact during the merging process, which is a significant advantage. It is unknown if File Manager can handle custom data.
