Filey ‑ Files Backup & Export vs Square Integration ‑ DPLfor Shopify (2026)
Filey ‑ Files Backup & Export and Square Integration ‑ DPL are both Shopify apps operating in the "Selling online" and "Store data importer" categories, but they address very different needs. Filey focuses on backing up, exporting, and transferring files, specifically those found in the "Content -> Files" section of a Shopify store, including product images, videos, and 3D models. Its primary strength lies in simplifying store data migration and backup, targeting merchants needing to move their store assets or secure their data. Square Integration ‑ DPL, on the other hand, while sharing the "Store data importer" category, aims to connect a Shopify store with Square for POS and payment processing. The key differentiator is their core functionality. Filey is about file management and migration, offering features like one-click downloads in a zip archive and direct uploading to new stores. Square Integration ‑ DPL, despite not having much feature information available, likely centers around syncing inventory, orders, and payments between Shopify and Square's ecosystem. A merchant seeking to streamline their online-to-offline sales process with Square would look to the latter, while a merchant planning a store migration or needing a robust file backup system would consider Filey.

Our Verdict
Filey ‑ Files Backup & Export is clearly the superior choice for merchants primarily concerned with data backup, store migration, and file management within the Shopify platform. Its higher rating and greater number of reviews suggest stronger user satisfaction in this area. The one-click export and import functionality positions it as a user-friendly solution for moving store assets.
Square Integration ‑ DPL serves a different purpose entirely. If a merchant's primary goal is to integrate their Shopify store with their Square POS system for unified inventory and payment processing, and they rely heavily on Square for in-person sales, then it would be the more logical choice. However, based solely on the provided information, Filey appears to be the stronger app in its specific niche.
Common Questions
Which app is better for migrating a Shopify store to a new theme?
Filey is designed specifically for this. It allows you to export all your store files, including images and videos, and then upload them to your new store. This simplifies the process of transferring your media assets.
Does Square Integration ‑ DPL offer any data backup features?
Based on the provided description, it's unlikely. Its focus is on integrating Shopify with Square, not backing up store files.
Is Filey compatible with all Shopify themes?
The app description doesn't mention theme compatibility specifically, but since it exports files directly from the 'Content -> Files' section, it should be compatible with any theme that uses those files.
What kind of support is offered for each app?
This is not specified in the descriptions of each app. Check the app listings for customer reviews that reference support quality.
If I only sell digital downloads, which app is more suitable?
If your digital downloads are stored in the 'Content -> Files' section, Filey can back them up and export them. Square Integration ‑ DPL would not be relevant unless you also sell products via a Square POS system.
