Finaloop vs VATfreefor Shopify (2026)
Finaloop and VATfree, while both categorized under 'Finances' in the Shopify app store, cater to vastly different needs. Finaloop is a comprehensive accounting solution, aiming to provide real-time, accurate bookkeeping and inventory management for e-commerce and multichannel brands. It offers a full-service experience, combining software with expert accountant support, targeting founders and business owners seeking financial clarity. Key to its offering is tax-ready financial reports and inventory sync functionality with features like COGS calculation and FIFO unit tracking. It is focused on businesses needing assistance with a range of accounting and financial management tasks, from managing P&L to catching up on previously neglected books. VATfree, on the other hand, targets merchants looking to capitalize on international tourism. Its core function is to facilitate VAT refunds for in-store international customers, simplifying the tax-free shopping process and potentially increasing sales from this demographic. However, its functionality is narrow and specific, requiring pre-existing account setup. VATfree is more of a point-of-sale enhancement tool for brick and mortar retail locations, rather than a complete financial management system.

Our Verdict
The choice between Finaloop and VATfree hinges entirely on the merchant's specific needs. For ecommerce businesses seeking comprehensive financial management, real-time bookkeeping, and expert support, Finaloop is the clear winner, especially given its high rating and positive reviews. VATfree is only relevant for brick-and-mortar stores catering to international tourists. Given the lack of reviews and rating data, along with the requirement for pre-existing account setup, merchants should proceed with caution and thoroughly investigate VATfree's offering before committing.
In many cases, these apps might even complement each other. A store selling internationally both online and in-person could potentially use Finaloop for overall accounting and VATfree for in-store VAT refunds. However, for the majority of Shopify merchants, especially those primarily focused on online sales, Finaloop is the more robust and valuable solution.
Common Questions
Does Finaloop handle VAT calculations?
Finaloop's description focuses on tax-ready financials, including Profit & Loss, Cash Flow, and Balance Sheet. Whether it explicitly handles VAT calculation isn't directly stated, but its accounting services likely address this area depending on the customer's needs.
Can VATfree be used for online sales to international customers?
The description explicitly states that VATfree is for "international in-store clients" and "POS purchases," suggesting it is not designed for online sales.
Is Finaloop suitable for small, early-stage startups?
Finaloop aims at offering real-time financial dashboards built for founders, suggesting the target audience includes startups. The full-service bookkeeping might be particularly appealing to startups lacking in-house accounting expertise.
What are the potential risks of using VATfree given the lack of reviews?
The absence of reviews makes it difficult to assess VATfree's reliability and effectiveness. Merchants should thoroughly research the app and the company behind it, request a demo, and potentially seek references before committing.
Does Finaloop integrate with POS systems?
While Finaloop mentions inventory sync for ecommerce & retail, its integration capabilities with specific POS systems are not detailed in the app description. Further research would be needed.
