Fraud Control vs Negate ‑ Bot Protectionfor Shopify (2026)
Fraud Control and Negate ‑ Bot Protection both address fraud prevention on Shopify, but they target distinctly different aspects. Fraud Control focuses on understanding and blocking potentially fraudulent orders at the checkout based on rules and risk analytics, targeting revenue maximization by preventing fraudulent transactions. It appears geared towards merchants needing robust fraud analysis and rule-based protection against human-initiated fraud. Negate ‑ Bot Protection, on the other hand, concentrates on blocking malicious bots to prevent skewed analytics and wasted marketing spend. It aims to keep marketing data clean and optimize ad targeting, making it especially attractive to merchants heavily reliant on digital marketing and concerned about bot traffic. The key difference lies in the type of threat each app addresses. Fraud Control directly confronts fraudulent *orders* placed by individuals (or bots disguised as individuals). Negate tackles the issue of *bot traffic* that inflates marketing metrics and potentially triggers fraudulent events like 'add to cart'. While both can contribute to overall fraud reduction, their approach and core functionalities are quite different. The significantly higher rating and larger number of reviews for Negate suggest greater user satisfaction and perhaps a clearer problem-solution fit for its target audience.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with *reducing fraudulent orders* placed by individuals (or advanced bots acting like individuals), Fraud Control offers a rule-based system for analysis and blocking. However, given its significantly lower rating and fewer reviews, it's important to thoroughly evaluate if its features and performance align with specific needs. Conversely, if a merchant's primary challenge is *inflated marketing metrics and wasted ad spend due to bot traffic*, Negate ‑ Bot Protection is the clear choice, offering a simple setup and a strong focus on preventing bot activity from skewing marketing data.
Ultimately, the choice depends on the type of fraud a merchant is most concerned about. If bots are the main issue disrupting marketing and analytics, Negate is the preferable solution. If the primary issue is fraudulent order placement, further investigation into Fraud Control (and potentially comparing with other order fraud apps) is necessary, given its user feedback.
Common Questions
What kind of fraud does Fraud Control protect against?
Fraud Control focuses on analyzing order risk and blocking potentially fraudulent orders before they are processed. This can include orders placed with stolen credit cards, fraudulent accounts, or other suspicious activities indicative of human-initiated fraud attempts.
Does Negate ‑ Bot Protection prevent fraudulent orders?
While Negate primarily focuses on bot traffic, by blocking malicious bots it can indirectly prevent some fraudulent activity, such as bots attempting to place fake orders or engaging in card testing. However, it is not designed to specifically analyze and block human-initiated fraudulent orders.
How easy is it to set up each app?
Negate ‑ Bot Protection advertises a 'one-click install', suggesting a very simple setup process. Fraud Control, however, requires setting up analytics and defining custom rules, implying a more involved initial configuration.
Can both apps be used together?
Yes, theoretically. Fraud Control can handle potential fraud at the order level, while Negate protects against bot traffic impacting marketing data. Using both could provide a more comprehensive fraud prevention strategy, addressing different attack vectors.
Which app offers a free trial?
The provided descriptions do not include information about free trials. Merchants should check the Shopify App Store listings for the most up-to-date information on pricing and trial periods.
