FraudBlock Fraud Prevention vs Signifydfor Shopify (2026)
FraudBlock Fraud Prevention and Signifyd both address fraud prevention on Shopify, but they take drastically different approaches. FraudBlock aims for complete automation, automatically cancelling high-risk orders flagged by Shopify's built-in system, refunding payments, and restocking inventory. It simplifies the process for merchants who want a hands-off solution for obvious fraud cases. Its key strength lies in its straightforward automation of order cancellation and inventory management based on Shopify's existing fraud analysis. Signifyd, on the other hand, offers a more comprehensive, AI-powered solution with a focus on minimizing false positives and maximizing conversions. Our Verdict
FraudBlock is suitable for smaller merchants or those just starting out, who want a simple and automated way to deal with orders already flagged as high-risk by Shopify. It's a straightforward solution for preventing chargebacks and managing inventory in those cases. However, it relies entirely on Shopify's fraud analysis.
Signifyd is a better choice for larger or faster-growing businesses that need a more robust and comprehensive fraud prevention solution, especially if they are experiencing a high volume of chargebacks or return fraud. The financial guarantee provides peace of mind, and the AI-powered decisioning can potentially approve more legitimate orders than a rule-based system, leading to increased revenue. The intelligent returns feature is a strong differentiator for stores selling products prone to returns.
Common Questions
What happens if FraudBlock cancels a legitimate order?
Because FraudBlock relies on Shopify's risk assessment, false positives are possible. Merchants should monitor cancelled orders to identify any patterns and adjust their Shopify fraud settings if needed. There's no direct recourse provided by FraudBlock itself, unlike Signifyd's guarantee.
How does Signifyd's financial guarantee work?
If Signifyd approves an order and the merchant experiences a fraud-related chargeback on that order, Signifyd covers the chargeback cost, thereby shifting the financial risk away from the merchant.
Does FraudBlock analyze the orders itself?
No, FraudBlock uses the risk analysis provided by Shopify. It does not have its own fraud detection algorithms or machine learning capabilities.
Can I customize the cancellation email sent by FraudBlock?
The provided description suggests the cancellation email is optional and implies customization is possible, but the specific degree of customization isn't specified. Check the app documentation for detailed email configuration options.
What data does Signifyd use to make fraud decisions?
Signifyd uses a variety of data points, including customer information, device information, purchase history, and more, to assess the risk of each order. They claim to leverage AI to improve accuracy and reduce false positives.
