FreeDrop vs Gatsby: Convert Your Followersfor Shopify (2026)
FreeDrop and Gatsby: Convert Your Followers both aim to improve conversions and list growth for Shopify merchants using gamification and engagement strategies. However, they differ significantly in their approaches and target audiences. FreeDrop focuses on on-site gamified experiences, offering games that users play to win discounts, thereby incentivizing sign-ups. It emphasizes embedding game widgets directly on the merchant's website and providing detailed analytics on game participation and discount code usage. Its primary strength lies in its ability to directly capture user information on-site through interactive games. Gatsby, on the other hand, centers its strategy around leveraging Instagram followers to build email and SMS lists, making it ideal for brands with a strong presence on the platform. It uses automated Instagram giveaways and campaigns conducted through direct messages. Gatsby also integrates with various marketing platforms like Klaviyo and Attentive, and loyalty programs like Smile and LoyaltyLion. While FreeDrop encourages on-site engagement, Gatsby focuses on off-site, Instagram-driven subscriber acquisition and engagement, offering broader features around user-generated content (UGC) management and ambassador programs.

Our Verdict
If you need a solution to boost on-site sign-ups with a gamified discount offering, FreeDrop might be a good choice. It directly addresses the problem of persuading users to provide their information on your website. However, given the extremely low number of reviews, merchants should proceed with caution.
For merchants heavily reliant on Instagram and aiming to convert their follower base into email/SMS subscribers, Gatsby is the more robust option. Its established presence, higher number of reviews, and integration with marketing and loyalty platforms make it a more reliable and feature-rich choice. The UGC and ambassador program management features are also compelling differentiators.
